Charles Slusher Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

SLUSHER, Charles E. Jr. Passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Blue Ash Hospice after a long struggle with illness. Charles was born at Fort Hamilton Hospital on October 12, 1957, the eldest son of Charles and Wrylda Slusher. Charles graduated from Lemon Monroe High School. He loved sports of all kinds and lettered in football, basketball, and baseball at Monroe. He also played industrial league baseball after graduation. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a big NASCAR fan. Charles commenced work at Armco immediately after high school. He loved the outdoors so after a couple of years he left Armco for farming with his good friends of the Bake family of Monroe. He met his future wife Dana Ashurst and they were married in June of 1983. He decided that he needed further education and obtained a 2-year degree in Electronics from Cincinnati Tech, meanwhile co-oping at Cincinnati Electronics. He then went to work for General Electric Aircraft Engines and started night school at the Wilmington College Branch where he obtained his Bachelors degree in Computer Science. At GE he developed computer software that was used in testing and certification of GE's large commercial and military jet engines. He spent many nights and holidays on engine test at Peebles Ohio and on occasions he went to Edwards Air Force Base in California to demonstrate and install other software that he had developed. He later returned to Armco for a number of years working as a software development engineer in Process Control. After that he invested in a tree care business so that he could again be outdoors and work with his sons and daughter for awhile. He also became an Ohio licensed substitute teacher and frequently taught classes at various Middletown and Lakota Schools. Charles was preceded in death by his dear mother Wrylda Slusher. He is survived by his beloved wife Dana, his father Charles Slusher Sr., son Dean Slusher (Becky) of Trenton OH, daughter Ashley Slusher of Middletown OH, son Charles Slusher III of Trenton OH, sister Dianna (Rick) Gibbins of Monroe OH, brother Todd (Angela) Slusher of Madisonville KY and granddaughters Mackenzie and Morgan. He is also survived by a number of loving cousins and nephews and nieces (who often teased him as "great uncle" Charlie). He also leaves behind a great host of caring friends, among them special buddy Rick Helm, who will long hold his memory. Charles was a very outgoing friendly person and easily formed lasting acquaintenances. On several occasions he met some local person who seemed lonely and brought them home with him for a Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. The neighborhood kids all loved him and frequently came to the door to ask Dana if Charles could "come out and play." All those whom he loved so dearly will miss him so much and hold him forever in their hearts and memories. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 PM at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home and services will be Monday at 10:00 AM with Reverend Leroy Chambliss officiating. Burial will be at the Monroe Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to benefit Amanda United Methodist Church, or the Monroe Life Squad.

We cannot communicate with those who have passed to the other side, never the less their presence remains as long as they are in our hearts. I will never forget you dad. You have touched many people in a way that I hope to one day be as big hearted and caring as you. I love you dad

Dana, Grandpa Slusher and family,
We are so sorry for the saddness that you are feeling. When someone dies it is just so hard to find any comforting words to say. Charlie was always so good to us and we knew he loved all of us. When I first contacted him to tell him I was your Marine key volunteer and I would keep you all up to date on any information we had from our sons in Iraq, he almost cried. He was so thankful and he told me "my wife is not handling this very good and I don't know how to help her." You all are so very important to us and we will keep you in our prayers. Hang onto the memories you have because you don't ever have to give those up. We love you all...

Sorry to hear the news. Charlie was a good friend growing up that I have thought about often. Although I only saw him at a few times since graduation, I enjoyed seeing and talking him at the reunions. Rest in Peace.

I have wonderful memories of "Little Charlie" from my time growing up on Timrick. Years later I always kept an eye out for him when visiting the old neighborhood because he always took the time to catch up with me. I enjoyed his visits immensely because it was if time had stood still if only for a little while. My thoughts are with the entire Slusher Family at this time.
