Family-Placed Obituary

SCHIEFER, Clarence Age 78, a resident of Westover Retirement Community, Hamilton, formerly of Fremont, Ohio, died Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Fort Hamilton Hospital. He was born July 28, 1927 in Crawford County, Ohio, the son of Moody L. and Nellie (Ranck) Schiefer. He was a graduate of Lykens High School, Heidelberg College with a Bachelor of Science in Math and Bowling Green State University with a Masters Degree in Education. He married Freda Hartschuh on December 24, 1949 in Tiffin, Ohio and she preceded him in death on March 1, 1998. He was a WWII veteran of the Navy Seabees serving in Hawaii after the Pearl Harbor attack. He was employed as a high school math teacher in Green Springs School, Green Springs, Ohio and in Fremont Ross High school, Fremont. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Masonic Lodge # 336, Zenobia Shrine Temple, Toledo and Shrine Club of Fremont, a life member of the Ohio Education Association, Fremont Rotary Club, Hiawatha Sportsman's Club of Engadine, Michigan and a 50 gallon blood donor with the Red Cross. His favorite activities were squirrel hunting and fishing with long time friend Francis Ruffing, making over 70 caravan trips to Alaska and spending time at his cabin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He is survived by his children, Mark Ivan Schiefer and wife Pat of Loveland, Ohio and Anne Kaye Dittman and husband, Michael of Hamilton; a sister, Geneva Detterman of Melmore, Ohio; grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Schiefer, Jessica Rae Schiefer, Kimberly Lynn Klotz and Melissa Renee Dittman and a great grandson, Alexander Klotz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Nelson W. Schiefer. His body was bequeathed to the University Of Cincinnati Medical College and there will be no services. The family expresses special thanks to the staff at Westover for their caring services over the past two and one half years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Heidelberg Department of Education, Heidelberg College, Tiffin, Ohio 44883. Weigel Funeral Home is serving the family.
