Steven McCLUSKEY Obituary

News Death Notice

McCLUSKEY, Steven Earl Passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 16 in Minneapolis, MN. He was a man who loved life, family, friends, and laughter. Born on March 18, 1949 Steve grew up in a very close family. He enjoyed competing in all youth sports. He graduated from Middletown High School where he excelled in football. Steve earned an athletic scholarship to Northwest Missouri State College where his exploits earned him a tryout with the Chicago Bears. While achieving success as a model for print media, Steve also demonstrated his great care and skill as a coach for youth track. He led several club teams to regional and national finals. As much as coaching, he enjoyed mentoring youth, including his nieces and nephews and inspiring all to reach for the fulfillment of their promise. Steve was a man of faith. He served as a deacon of his church and often spoke of and demonstrated his convictions through his regard and loyalty to others. With a ready smile, no one near him remained a stranger for long. He was preceded in death by his father, John, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Yvette, his daughters Stevy Crystal and Whitney, his grandson Jakius, Mother Helen, Brother John Jr, Sisters Mildred and Karen and several nieces, nephews, cousins. Services will be held Sunday, February 22 at 3pm at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN.

My condolences to the family, I have never met Steve but I feel like I have known him forever. It is funny how I found this page. I googled his name because I recently moved into a house on 17th avenue that at one time belonged to him. When I first moved in this house it was still full of a lot of his old belongings mainly a lot of paperwork. I have been here a year now and still am going thru boxes and file cabinets in the basement where I will find a lot of things like newspaper articles, cards he wrote to his wife and things of that nature, also old lottery tickets, boxes and boxes of old lottery tickets, lol. I have found a lot of interesting things out about this man and some of the things I have kept because I find them very interesting, and honestly was hoping one day to find someone who knew him and maybe wanted these things. Alot of articles about his days playing football for highschool and college. I just found an article he saved and decided to google his name and this is what popped up. So I felt like I needed to say something even though I did not know him, maybe someone who did or someone in his family would reach out toe and be interested in some of these memorabilia that I have found. Once again I sorry for your loss he seemed like a wonderful man from the things of his that I have found.

It saddens me to learn that Stevie(as I knew him) died over five years ago. I left Middletown in !966, but I knew him for four years and he was always a friend. I lived on16th for two years, and he and Robbie Vinson would sometimes visit our home. We played basketball and football on Edison School's playgrounds. Now, I will forever regret that I did not try to contact him sooner.

My heart is very heavy and it saddens me to learn of his transition at this late date. I first met Steve at a college in Denison IA. We transferred to NWMS the following year. We had a great time in school. He said that he was the godfather of my daughter when we lived on campus. I was married to a good friend of his, George Motley Jr. I will post some of the many pictures I have of him soon.
Peace to you,

It is with a lot of heartfelt sympathy that I am writing this message. Steve was a close classmate back during our junior and senior high school days in Middletown, Ohio. He was such a close friend. My heart is truly heavy! I feel the pain your family is going through, as I have lost all 5 of my brothers, all previously from Middletown, Ohio. In loving memory, LINDA PATE.

I went to school with SEM, played football with him, even with Doc Bremer in grade school, and was always impressed with his character, disposition, and intelligence. He was a stand-out human being...period

Farewell friend....Stevie McCluskey....never got my nickname correct on purpose! Always laughingly said, "so long Birdie" when we walked home from school in the same group! So grateful we are once again in the same group, "the redeemed of JESUS CHRIST!" Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of HIS saints! Psalm 116:15. So long Stevie! From Berta. Family you are in my prayers.

Saddened to hear of Steven's passing, but pleased to know he was serving God. We attended classes together at McKinley Jr. High. In 8th grade Social studies he sat just behind me & we were in all of the same classes. In 9th grade, we were in Mr. Prichard's algebra class. Sad to see our former classmates leaving ahead of us, but again happy to know that he is w/ our Heavenly Father. Love & Prayers to Family & Friends! Linda Begley Flack, Former Jr High Classmate
