Bernadette DePaolo Obituary
Bernadette DePaolo, 68, of Middletown, beloved wife of forty four years to Craig DePaolo, passed away suddenly on November 7, while on a trip to Italy. Born in Trinidad, she was the third of ten children to the late David and Basant Singh. She is predeceased by her older brother Sylvan and sister Maria. Bernadette was a devout member of Saint Sebastian Church, serving God in many ways. She taught religious education to both the youth and adult members, sang in the choir, recited the Rosary before Mass, served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, was a member of the Saint Teresa Guild and the Norwich Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She also volunteered her time to pray the Rosary with the residents at The Village at South Farms. Her love of her vegetable, herbal and flower gardens were almost as beautiful as her smile and laugh, which could light up a room, and will be missed dearly. Bernadette loved cooking and hosting gatherings with family and friends. She most recently enjoyed traveling with the AARP as well. Besides her husband, she leaves behind her loving sons Mark and John of Middletown, Daniel and daughter-in-law Colleen of Haddam and her beloved granddaughter, Isabella Rose. She also leaves behind seven sisters along with several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Liturgy will be held Monday (Dec. 1st) at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Church, Washington St., Middletown. Burial will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the St. Sebastian Renovation Fund, c/o St. Sebastian Church, 155 Washington St., Middletown, CT 06457. It is with deepest sympathy I pray for the family of this wonderful woman. I can remember teaching CCD downstairs in the church hall with Bernadette. We remained friends and had lots of things in common. She always had that wonderful smile and always such a happy person. I'll miss her and will pray for her in all my prayers. Dear Craig and family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved wife, and mother Bernadette! We met back in the 70's at the prayer meeting at St. Sebastian's and were together on many retreats and prayer services. We just met at the market where we caught up on our families, and she was so looking forward to her trip to Italy. She had the most beautiful smile, and when we hugged I never thought it would be our last, but she will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. I remember Bernadette so very well and the good friend she was to my Mom Rita Marselli. I am shocked and sad that she has passed. Mom and Bernadette spent many long talks at out kitchen table. I will never forget her.

Mrs. Depaolo was the nicest person this world could produce. Her laugh will never be matched, and the way she comforted you in time of need cannot be described in words. So saddened to hear of Bernadette's passing. At the old Farm Hill School I spoke with her many times and just loved her as a friend. She spoke of how she taught her children to appreciate Christmas by only giving hand made gifts in order to remember what we were celebrating. I hope her legacy will live on through her family. She will not be forgotten by anyone who had the blessing of knowing her. What a lovely and Godly woman she was.

My heart goes out to the DePaulo family. She was such a lovely person. I met Bernadette when Mark and Jeremy were in grade 1. She introduced me to curry, and her pistachio cake was Jeremy's favorite for years.

I was deeply sadden to hear of Bernadette's passing. She would always stop by to say hello at the church prior to Saturday evening's mass. She was very excited and looking forward to her trip to Italy. My last words to her was wishing her a wonderful trip. Bernadette was such a warm, caring and charming lady.
