Bruce SCHULTZ Obituary

SCHULTZ, Bruce "Ted"

Bruce "Ted" Schultz, 69 of Bristol, passed away on Monday (April 1, 2013) in peace and prayer at Saint Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a 19 year battle fighting rare lung diseases. He was the beloved husband and best friend for 48 years to Janet (Leger) Schultz. He was born in New Britain on July 7, 1943 and was a son of the late Harry and Anne (Gromoshak) Schultz. He was predeceased by a brother David (Sandy) Schultz of Vermont. He leaves his son Todd Schultz of Bristol and his love, Marta Orfitelli, and his son Corey Schultz and his wife Melanie of Harwinton. He was the proud grandfather to three amazing grandchildren Emily, Nate, and Kyle. Bruce was a tool and die maker by trade and worked at various spring shops in the surrounding area. His hobby and love of woodworking led to a successful business he started 35 years ago, CWC Architectural Woodworking (Colonial Wood Craft). Bruce was a Cub Scout leader at Saint Stanislaus Church, Bristol Pack 22 for years. He also built and donated the pinewood derby track for Pack 22 which was also used by other surrounding towns. His greatest joy was the weekly barbecue by his pool with his children and grandchildren. We will always remember him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Bruce was a courageous fighter against all odds and a true inspiration to those people who were waiting for lung transplants. His family would like to thank the wonderfully caring and compassionate doctors and staff that have taken such good care of him over the years: Dr. Oliver and Linda Diaz with their staff Mark and Cindy, Dr. Bimalin Lahiri from Saint Francis Pulmonary & Critical Care with his staff Lynn, Paula, Mary Lou, and the respiratory technicians, Dr. Vivek Ahya, director of the lung transplant team at University of Pennsylvania Hospital with his assistant James Mendez, and all the doctors and nurses at Saint Francis Hospital who took such great care of Bruce in his final months. Special thanks to Dr. Joseph Woo, Bruce's lung transplant surgeon, as well as his organ donor and family, who made the last seven years of his life possible.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West St., Bristol. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Saturday between 8:30 and 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2080 Silas Deane Highway, 2nd Floor, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 (www.diabetes.org/donate), or to Saint Francis Pulmonary and Critical Care, Attn: Mary Lou Connors, 114 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105.
