Carolyn McClintock Obituary



Carolyn (Lindy) Nelbach McClintock of Enfield, CT, was born March 20, 1928 in Yonkers, NY, daughter of the late George and Inez Turner Nelbach. The family spent many wonderful summers at Caspian Lake, Greensboro, VT where her love for VT developed. Carolyn graduated from the University of Vermont in 1951 with a B.S. in Secondary Education. She met her beloved late husband, Russell, a native of Newbury, VT, and a World War II U.S. Navy Air Corp veteran, at the University. They were married in the community church in Greensboro, VT, September 9, 1950. Besides Carolyn's beloved husband and parents, she is predeceased by her brother; Philip Nelbach, sisters: Inez Nelbach, and Elizabeth Nelbach Wood. Her survivors include her son James and his wife Ute Schmidt, his children Kyle and Colleen; son, Bruce and his wife Dawn (Morra), their children Nicole and Shawn; son, Duncan and his wife Linda (Weiss), their son Michael; daughter Kim (Kathryn) and her husband James Griffin, their children Patrick; Carole and her husband John Diaz; Jaime Smith; and a great grandson Jonathan Diaz. She also leaves many dear relatives and friends. Carolyn was a substitute teacher in Enfield Secondary School during the late 1960s. Other activities and interests were singing in many church choirs, choral societies beginning in her early years. She studied voice at Hartford Conservatory of Music. A choral experience that gave her great pleasure was singing in the Oratorio Choir of the Asylum Hill Congregational Church and experiencing the joy of singing great choral works in their concert whether in that church, New York City, Boston, or other churches. Carolyn was a member of the former local League of Woman Voters and represented it on the Interleague of Women Voters for the CT River Basin and met with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on environmental land and water issues. Carolyn was also a member of the CT Gladiolas Society and enjoyed growing and showing her prize-winning flowers at New England Gladiolas Shows. She also, along with her husband, Russell, raised and showed Labrador Retrievers at dog shows in breed and obedience. They were members of the Labrador Retriever Club of Central CT and former members of the Shoreline Retriever Club. Carolyn was a member of the Enfield Congregational Church where she co-incorporator of the Emergency Loan Fund of Enfield, Inc. She was the President of the Board of Directors for this non-profit organization for many years. A memorial service will be held at the Enfield Congregational Church to celebrate Carolyn's life on Saturday Apr. 8, 2017 at 11:30 am. Visiting hours will precede the memorial service at Browne Memorial Chapels Enfield from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will be at the family's convenience in the McClintock family plot at the Town House Cemetery in Newbury, VT. Memorial donations in Carolyn's memory may be made to the Enfield Congregational Church, PO Box 3171, Enfield, CT 06082.
