Charlotte Bacon Obituary

Charlotte J. Bacon passed peacefully on December 26, 2016 at her home in Wethersfield with her family at her side. Born on January 22, 1928 in Freeport NY to Helen and Joseph William Jensen. Charlotte attended Wethersfield High School where she met the love of her life, Edward C. Bacon Jr. of Rocky Hill. They became engaged on the parachute drop at Coney Island, NY, they eloped in Elkton, MD while Ed was on ships leave from the Merchant Marines, and they honeymooned at Jones Beach, NY and later aboard their lightning sailboat on the CT River. They raised 4 children while living on Riverview Rd in Rocky Hill. They lived in Old Saybrook during a retirement period where they resumed their love of boating. They returned to Wethersfield CT in 2002. Charlotte worked for David Moser, MD for many years. Charlotte and Ed enjoyed close friendships with neighbors, their church family, high school class mates, and the Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department. She served as a Deaconess and on numerous committees at the Rocky Hill Congregational Church and continued as a faithful church member throughout her life. Charlotte enjoyed many years of loving care by fire department members, and helped to establish the Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department Museum. Charlotte thrived on her service to others. Her heartwarming smile and her belief in the adage that "there are no strangers only friends we have yet to meet" were her trademarks. Charlotte enjoyed entertaining and bringing people together. Family and friends would often gather at her home on Friday nights for happy hour. Ed and Charlotte established annual family reunions at the Cape Ann Motor Inn in Gloucester MA. These reunions affirmed their love of family and traditions. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond compare. To Charlotte, Barbara Bechtel was like a sister, and Melinda Sykura and Amy Ramsdel were loved like daughters. Charlotte deeply appreciated the many cards and visits by Rev. Craig Cowing, family, and friends. Charlotte and family are also thankful for the compassionate care from Violet and Sandra (her personal Visiting Angels) and her Hartford Healthcare hospice team; everyone supported Charlotte as though she was their mom. Charlotte lives in the hearts of her children, Beverly Bacon, Ed and Holli Bacon, Jeanne and Bill Timrud, and James Bacon; her grandchildren Randall and Mercedes, Leah, Mark & Stephanie, Tim, Carla, Kirsten & Jason, Evan & Tina, Brett; her great-grandchildren John, Malaya, Evelyn, Lilly, Tessa, Thatcher, Haakon, Emily, and Mathew; and her Niece and Nephews - Bob, Will and Audrey Jensen, Sandy Piche, and Britta & Walt Kita. The funeral will be held tomorrow, December 29, 11:00 AM at the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, 805 Old Main St., Rocky Hill. Calling hours will be held today, Wednesday, December 28, from 4-7 PM at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Rocky Hill Congregational Church. To share a memory with the family, please visit www.dillonbaxter.com.

Dear Family of Charlotte,

I just saw this and I wanted you all to know that Charlotte was just about THE nicest woman I've ever known. She was so good to my whole family and her Happy Hour parties were a lot of fun. She opened her home and gave her friendship to all of us, and for that, she will always be remembered so fondly in my heart.

My prayers go out to all of you; she will be missed.

Deepest sympathy to Charlotte's family. I had the pleasure of knowing Charlotte and her husband Edward along with their children for years.

I recall many times being over their home while growing up with her children and feeling so welcome. Charlotte loved her family and her friends. She will be missed.

It is with deep sadness to hear of Charlotte's passing. She was mom's closest friend along with Mrs. Bechtel I have fond memories of the Thursday ladies' coffee group when their friends would meet rotating homes. We send our deepest condolences to the family.
