Helen Wetherell Obituary

WETHERELL, Helen B. Helen B. Wetherell, 99, died Thursday, (January 15, 2009), at her daughter's home after a period of declining health. She was born in Jordan Ferry, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Spurgeon and Hattie (Decker) Bush. She is predeceased by her husband Glendon E. Wetherell, her son Richard M. Wetherell, and her sister E. They lived at the YWCA in Hartford while they established themselves. There they met friends who would remain life long friends. Helen took a job early on, with Connecticut Mutual Insurance. She later met and married Glendon Wetherell. They set up housekeeping in Newington and Helen stayed home to raise their family. She returned to work later in life at Traveler's Insurance in Hartford, retiring in 1974. In 1998, she moved to Bridgewater, NH, making her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Elda and Mark Givens. Helen was dedicated to her family, spending time with children and babysitting for grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to knit and garden, often sharing the fruits of her labor with those around her. She was an avid Scrabble player and loved to read. Helen had strong faith in God. Her devotion drew her to be a founding member of the United Methodist Church of Newington, where she served actively on many committees, led Bible Studies groups, and served where there was need. She was a faithful servant of God, and will always be remembered for her dedication, devotion and outreach to others. Family members include two daughters: Jane W. Breen of Newington and Elda & Mark Givens of Bridgewater, NH; a daughter-in-law Joan N. Wetherell of Berlin and seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Newington, 401 New Britain Ave, Newington. Mrs. Wetherell was kind, compassionate, loving and caring. I am so happy to know she had a long life. She trained me at the Travelers when I was in a work study program in the 60's. I have always remember her. I know she is in heaven with all the saints. May God bless her family and give you peace.
