MANAFORT, James A., Sr. James A. Manafort, Sr., 69, of Lecanto, FL. and Farmington, died suddenly on Wednesday, (January 24, 2007) at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, FL., with his devoted wife of ten years, Nancy by his side. Born on December 21, 1937, in New Britain, Jim was the son of the late Anthony Manafort and Rose (Forlini) Gallo. Jim retired as President of Manafort Brothers, Inc. in 1998, after 45 years in the demolition/construction industry. Beginning as a truck driver at the age of 16, Jim worked through the ranks over the years, alongside his grandfather, father, brother, uncles, cousins, and friends. He assumed the Presidency of the firm in 1969, and under the leadership of Jim, his brother, Jon and cousin, Frankie, the company grew to be one of the most prominent and successful family owned businesses in the Northeast. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Demolition Contractors, the Board of Directors of Briarwood College, New Britain General Hospital, New Britain Y.M.C.A, the Boys and Girls Clubs of New Britain, Sheldon Child Guidance Clinic, and the Italian Independent Political Club. His many philanthropic endeavors included the Manafort Family Foundation, My Sister's Place, and the Black Diamond Foundation. In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Virginia and Michael O'Connor of Sinking Spring, PA., James Manafort, Jr. of Farmington, Lynne and Sal Romano of Southington, David and Randi Manafort of Berlin, Joy and Bob Anello of Plainville, Lindsay and Shawn Griffin of Plainville, and Shawn Manafort of Newington; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Andrew O'Connor, Nicholas, Gene, and Sandra Manafort, Salvatore, Vincent, and Maryssa Romano, David Manafort, Jr., Alyssa Anello, and Frank and Julianna Griffin. He also leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Elisa Manafort; his business partner and cousin, Frank Manafort, Jr. and his wife, Liz; his sister, Donna Robinson and her husband, Bill; his uncle, Paul J. Manafort, Sr.; his aunt, Emily Manafort; his mother-in-law, Joyce Hawk; his sister-in-law, Leslie Hill and her husband, Ken; and his nephews, his loving cousins, and countless loyal friends. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Ann Church, North St., New Britain on Tuesday, January 30th at 10 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Bailey Funeral Home, Plainville is assisting the family. I just left the beautiful service at St Ann Church. The church was was filled as a wonderful tribute to Jim. The eulogies by you Jim and Sal were so touching I don't think there was a dry eye in the church.
Nancy the first night I met you was at Sorento's and Jim was singing "Nancy with the Smiling Face", his eyes showed his true love for you.
