John E. Descy

1933 - 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John E. Descy, 85, on August 31, 2018 at Manchester Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Hartford, CT to Edmond and Margaret (Gleeson) Descy on April 19, 1933, he grew up in Manchester, was a 1951 graduate of Manchester High School and studied Engineering at UConn. He was employed at Pratt & Whitney (UTC) and Kaman Aircraft before becoming Manager of Manufacturing Engineering at Colt Firearms and went on to employment at Fenn Manufacturing Co., Newington, CT in the position of Director of Manufacturing Engineering. After retirement he worked as an engineer for 8 years at Timken Corp. (formerly Purdy Corporation) of Manchester, CT. John was an avid contract bridge player and earned his life master during the 1970's. He enjoyed his boats, fishing, golf, trips to Maine and travel in the United States and Bermuda. John was a dedicated family man devoted, first to his children and, later, to his grandchildren, who enjoyed many rounds of mini-golf, bowling, ice cream and numerous seashore dinners. In addition to his wife Stephanie, to whom he was married 45 years, he leaves two sons, Michael Descy (wife Allyson) of Marlboro, NJ and their children, Ella and Sebastian; Matthew Descy (wife Mary) of Somers, CT; and two daughters, Kathleen Descy (Anton Mayer) of Ellington, CT; and Jamie Soule (husband John) of Granby, CT and their children, Nathaniel of West Springfield, MA, Madeline of Boston, MA and Rachel of Boston, MA, and the family dog, Ben. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his two brothers, Richard (Dick) Descy (and sister-in-law Barbara), and William (Bill) Descy. In accordance with John's wishes there will be no services. A family celebration of his life will be scheduled in the future. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
