John Stanhope Obituary

John A. Stanhope, Jr. passed away on November 21, 2016, at home with his wife Linda (Gustafson) Stanhope. Originally from Lunenburg, MA, John graduated from the Wentworth Institue of Technology and moved to CT. He worked at Hamilton Sundstrand for 44 years after starting there right after college. He volunteered for the FIRST Robotics program that partnered Hamilton Sundstrand with Windsor Locks High School, mentoring students and helping wherever he could. He was a member of the Shriner's Melha Shrine in Springfield, MA. He had a passion for boating, and was a member of the Citizens Restoring Lake Congamond in Southwick, MA. His passion for boating took him and his wife down the CT River into Long Island Sound, with some of their favorite stops being Montague & Sag Harbor. He was a very active member of the Springfield Yacht & Canoe Club, holding various offices during his years of membership. He loved fast cars, and enjoyed watching NASCAR and Formula 1 racing. He also enjoyed fast sports like snowmobiling in the wintertime. John was a lifetime member of the Windsor Marksmen's Club, and enjoyed shooting with his son John. He is survived by his wife of 16 years Linda Gustafson Stanhope, his two sons John Stanhope, III of Branford, and Jason Stanhope of Enfield, along with his wife Sabrina and their children Nicholas, Austin, and Alexis. A special thanks goes out to Buddy and Jeff, some of his close friends that were especially helpful towards the end of his life. The family invites everyone to a celebration of life to be held at the Moose Lodge at 124 South Rd in Enfield, CT on Saturday December 3rdbetween the hours of 11AM and 3PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Windsor Locks Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

To Linda & extended Stanhope family. Tony and I would like offer our heartfelt sympathies to all of you for your loss. We will always reflect on our memories of John as being a great and dedicated friend who was always kind, considerate, truely thoughtful and loved a good laugh! A man we came to know with a loving heart for his family.

Tony enjoyed shooting the breeze with John about everyday goings on or boating wether it was places we had been to or sharing "how to's" when it came to working on them. John was always ready to lend a hand. There were also the Lobster cookouts that you invited us to that made for lots of fun and food! John has touched our lives and we are greatful for having been friends.
