John Szypula Obituary

John William Szypula, Jr., 73, of Butternut St., Middletown, formerly of South Glens Falls, NY, died Saturday (June 21, 2003) at the Wadsworth Glen Health Care Center. He was born in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late John and Edith (Banowicz) Szypula, Sr. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. He was band instructor and vice principal at Valley Regional High School in Deep River. He later owned and operated SLS Livery in South Glens Falls, NY. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by two daughters, Amy Knight of Kensington and Susan Finkle of Guilford; a son, John Szypula, of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, Thomas Szypula of Orlando, FL; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Jason, and Hanna; two nephews, Jim Szypula of Egg Harbor Township, NJ and Stephan Szypula of Tallahassee, FL and a niece, Deborah Gross of Willsboro, NY. He was predeceased by a son, Michael C. Szypula. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 27, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, S. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services and burial were private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Biega Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of CT, c/o Cronin Public Relations, 50 Nye Rd., Glastonbury, CT 06033.
