Joseph SCALZO Obituary

Joseph "Joe" A. Scalzo, Sr., 83, Rocky Hill, beloved husband of Julia A. (D'Angelo) Murphy, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital. Joe was born in Hartford, one of four children of the late William and Antoinette (Nesta) Scalzo. Joe grew up in Hartford, graduating from Bulkeley High School and studied architecture at Hartford State Technical College. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed for a time in Germany. He held a Master Plumbers license and was the founder and owner of Scalzo Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 2008. Joe enjoyed many summers at his second home in Old Saybrook. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge # 2308 and his free time was frequently spent golfing, cooking, reading, woodworking and watching the NY Yankees. Most of all, Joe was devoted to his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Along with his wife of 21 years, Joe will be dearly missed by his daughter, Tina-Marie DesRoches of Hebron, his son, Joseph A. Scalzo, Jr. and wife Holly of Old Saybrook, and his daughter, Michele Daniels and husband John of Madison; his cherished grandchildren; Bryan DesRoches and wife Marissa, Nicole Sandillo and husband Edward, Heather DesRoches, Kevin Sousa, Scott Sousa, John Daniels, Jr. and Nicholas Scalzo; four precious great-grandchildren, and his sister Veronica Kim and her husband Dr. Cyril Kim of Manchester. Joe will be fondly remembered by Joseph Murphy and wife Ulana and James Murphy and wife Julie along with their families. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his first wife, of 37 years, Mildred (Febeo) Scalzo, brother, Anthony Scalzo, sister Lena Civitillo and son-in-law Thomas DesRoches. During his lifetime, and profession, Joe was able to meet many people that became dear friends, who will miss him. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Joe's life will be held on January 14, 2021 at 11 a.m., in St. James Campus of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, the Mass will be livestreamed via the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel Facebook page. Private interment will follow the Mass. Joe was married to my Aunt Julie. He was a great person and we enjoyed knowing him. Our greatest memory of him was when he proposed to Julie with a plane pulling a flag asking her to marry him. Love Pete & Diane Brown.
