Michael Fine Obituary

FINE, Michael Michael Fine, 89, of Bloomfield, died peacefully on Friday, (January 20, 2006). He was the beloved husband of Frimi (Suravitz) Fine for 64 wonderful years. He was Born Meyer Doran Finkelstein on May 18, 1916 in Wilkes Barre, PA, where he lived for the first 35 years of his life. He attended Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School and Pennsylvania State University. At age 18, after his father's untimely death, he went to work for Pioneer Manufacturing Company, his father's dry goods business, and later joined The Hub, his mother's family clothing business, where he acquired a love and appreciation for fine clothing that continued throughout his life. He moved to West Hartford with his family in May of 1950 and founded and built The Clark Paint Company, a retail and manufacturing company, where he continued to work until he died. During his life, he and his family were members of the Beth David Synagogue and Beth El Temple both in West Hartford. He was an avid sports fan, devouring everything that was telecast, broadcast or discussed around the dinner table with his four sons, his grandchildren and whoever was there and cared to listen to his detailed analysis and passionate opinions. His all-time favorite team was Penn State football. His Uncle Bill introduced him to golf at Fox Hill Country Club in Wilkes Barre when he was a teenager, and he continued to play (and watch) golf until he died. He was a member of the Rockledge Country Club and the Toppers. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his four devoted sons and their families: Harry Fine and his wife Martha of Avon; Norman Fine and his wife Cheryl of West Hartford; David Fine and Aliha Blyther of West Hartford; and Jonathan Fine of Malibu, CA. He also leaves six loving grandchildren and their families, who referred to him affectionately as "Papa Mike": Jeffrey Fine and his wife Africa of Boynton Beach, FL; David H. Fine of West Hartford; Alexander Fine and his wife Veronique of Washington, DC; Joshua Fine and his wife Brooke of Boston, MA; Matthew Fine and his fiancee Laurel Priber of New York, NY; and Katie Fineberg and her husband Mark of Framingham, MA. Also, two great-grandchildren: Owen and Parker Fine of Boynton Beach, FL. Funeral services will be held TODAY, January 23 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of his son, Norman, 1 Brookside Blvd., West Hartford, TODAY, following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in his memory be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden 06450, or the Alzheimer's Association, 96 Oak Street, Hartford 06106.
