Michael WEAVER Obituary

WEAVER, Michael J. Michael J. Weaver, 57, of East Haddam, CT. It is with great sadness that we announce that Michael died Saturday, (November 14, 2009), after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Michael's positive spirit prevailed throughout, as he was determined to continue to work, golf, and spend time with his children, family, and friends. He was born in Middletown, CT, the son of Alma (Guidi) Weaver and the late Walter (Pete) Weaver. A graduate of Valley Regional H.S., Michael attended Southern CT State University. He then set out on a career that led to him becoming a nationally acclaimed farrier. From apprenticeship with Eddie Strain, to a long and successful partnership and friendship with George Fitzgerald, Michael shod the finest show hunters and jumpers in the country. Michael was actively involved with the youth of the community through his involvement as a coach and mentor. He was an avid golfer and treasured the camaraderie that he shared with his golfing buddies. The love for both his friends and the game kept his spirit alive while battling his illness. Thank you to all of Michael's caregivers at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He had supreme confidence in their ability to help him through this life challenge. Special thanks to Dr. Wen, Lisa Doherty, Mary Gerard. A note of appreciation is given to the caring staff at Chestelm Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who took wonderful care of Michael during his hospice stay. Michael is survived by many loving and caring friends and family members including his children, Nicole and Matthew, who will miss him dearly; his mother, Alma; brother, Robert and wife, Barbara; sister, Nancy Ray and husband, Peter; nephews Ryan, Jason, and Joseph Weaver; niece, Ashley Weaver; first wife and forever friend, Susan Weaver; and his new granddaughter, Elyse Taylor. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 30, at 5 pm at the First Church of Christ on Main St., Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Michael's granddaughter, Elyse Sophia Taylor, Liberty Bank, Moodus, CT.

I am a friend from afar, by memories of being a school mate, this saddned me to hear of his pasting. The pasting of Mike has me thinking how short life is, and how he made the best of it. My prayers are for his family and friends.

Having known The Weaver Family since Jr. High, I spent many days, nights, and weekends with them. Mike was like a father to me. He was always there for advice, coaching, and showed his care and concern for me, as well as many others. Being around Mike always brought a smile to your face. I'll never forget the memories and how he touched my life. May you rest in peace Mike. To The Weavers, I send my love and deepest sympathy from Kansas City. Always thinking of you......

Mike helped us out time and time again....a true friend! So many times when our show horses needed immediate help, he would tell us to put them on the trailer and meet him wherever. He was handsome, funny and so knowledgeable. Although we hadn't seen Mike in a while, we will always remember him fondly. Our sympathies to his family.
