When Mr. Southergill passed away, I made a donation to the Highland Lake
Watershed Association. Highland Lake was a very special place for Mr. Southergill, and I was thrilled to support such a beautiful place in his honor, as I had grown up spending many memorable times on this lake with my friends and family. Just two years later- I am a member of this Association, and this spring, I was fortunate enough to buy a small cottage up at Highland Lake! While out on my boat, I stopped by the Southergill cottage, hoping to run into Noreen and Charlie. Unfortunately, they were off traipsing across the world in their travels- I'll catch up with them again, but I had a wonderful conversation with a younger fella who was there with his family, a nephew or something or other, but the place was abuzz with activity from the many kids and floats!
I'm quite sure Norm is looking down with an adoring grin from ear to ear, seeing his family continuing the tradition of enjoying the cottage, the lake, the family time, making memories, as he surely did with his family, and certainly would have wanted for generations to follow.
In Norm's memory, I will continue to relish and nurture the time I'm able to spend at our cottage with my family and friends. I will salute my flag today- at the cottage, in honor of Norms service to our country, and his dedication and kindness to the many Farmington Valley families he (and Charlie) helped at Norms OK tires throughout the years! I also look forward to running into Noreen and Charlie at some point up there- perhaps a late afternoon sunset cruise around the lake with a margarita on the rocks!
Rest in Peace Mr. Southergill, yours is a proud legacy eminently worthy of remembrance.

Noreen, Charlie and family- I'm sorry for your loss, he truly personified the greatest generation. I remember the ole' tire shop quite well, as it was an Avon staple, and fondly recall the good times spent with you folks in the FD, back in the better days of old Avon.
In recognition of your dad's service to our country, I will salute my flag today in his honor. As my children and I have spent countless great days making memories on Highland Lake, I have happily donated to the HLWA in Norm's memory.
Peace to you and your family.
