Robert Boland Obituary
Robert J. Boland, 77, a lifelong Newington resident, husband of Elaine (Benjamin) Boland, passed away Tuesday (February 23, 2016) at Hartford Hospital. A graduate of Newington High School, Class of 1956, Bob is a US AirForce veteran and served as a Weapons Mechanic which allowed him to travel the world. He was employed at The Hartford Insurance Group as a manager of IT Operations and retired in 1994 after 33 years. Bob also served as a Supernumerary Police Officer for the Newington Police Department for 20 years as well as being a licensed commercial pilot. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Newington, and was Past President of the Newington Police Alumni Association. Robert enjoyed planning vacations and traveling with his wife Elaine. Besides his wife Elaine, he leaves three daughters, Sharon Hurley and her husband Patrick of Harrison, NY; Susan Lance and her husband Mark of Westford, MA; and Karen Harz of Manchester; six grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel Hurley, Sarah and Benjamin Paventi, and Maxwell and Adam Harz; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Clark and Irene (Loiselle) Boland, he was predeceased by a brother, Hugh Ewing. Funeral services are Saturday 10 AM directly at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Avenue, Newington. Burial with military honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are Friday 4 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Bob... You will always be a special person in my life. You were there when I needed advice and your advice, was superb. I'll miss all the fun and laughs we all had, sometimes just the silliness.
