Robert Coppa Obituary

Robert Peter Coppa, age 71, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away on January 12, 2020, following a year long battle with cancer. As was his nature, Bob never complained. Throughout his treatment and final days, Bob's greatest concern remained the welfare of those he loved. Bob was born in 1948, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Guido and Anne Faitella Coppa, who raised him in the Elmwood section of West Hartford. Bob graduated from Conard High School and enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Erlangen, Germany. In 1972, Bob married Jane Konover and they remained happily married for 47 years, until Bob's passing. They raised two children, Karen and David, in West Hartford, Connecticut. Bob worked hard for many years in construction management to help provide for his family. In 1999, Bob and Jane moved to Delray Beach, Florida. They loved discovering a new life together as a couple. Bob and Jane enjoyed many wonderful years in Delray with family and friends. Bob felt very fortunate that both of his children chose to raise their families near him in South Florida. He was pleased with the partners his children chose and was proud of the people and parents both Karen and David are. After retiring to Florida, Bob became an avid golfer. He enjoyed the company of his many golf buddies and loved his days on the course. Nothing gave Bob more joy than his family, particularly his three grandchildren. "Poppy", as they all called him, shared a special relationship with each of them. Bob introduced Jason to his two loves, fishing and golf. Bob was proud to have played several golf tournaments with Jason and happy to be following Jason's achievements as he traveled South Florida for competitions. From the very beginning, Adam was happiest when snuggling with Poppy and finding comfort in his arms. In Adam, Bob found someone who shared his passion for trying and cooking new foods. Kayla, the youngest, was Pop's true friend. They shared countless inside jokes, totally got each other, made each other laugh and enjoyed watching movies together, particularly Harry Potter. Bob was happy with the people his grandkids were becoming and was so looking forward to sharing all the great things they would experience and accomplish. The entire family would get together every weekend for big meals, to plan family vacations, spend an afternoon in the pool, grill hamburgers and hotdogs and of course, end every meal by talking about the next meal together. Whether eating, grilling, golfing, traveling or just babysitting, it was all wonderful to Bob. Bob is survived by his wife Jane Coppa, his daughter Karen Coppa/Eric Kleinman of Coral Gables, Florida, his son David Coppa/Devon McManama of Delray Beach, Florida, his three beautiful grandchildren, his brother Ed Coppa of Newington, Connecticut, sister-in-law Nancy Budney of Connecticut and Florida, his mother-in-law Doris Marcus Konover of Delray Beach, Florida, his brothers-in-law Michael Konover/Vicki Konover of Bonita Springs, Florida and Avon, CT and Steven Konover of West Hartford, Connecticut and New York City, and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. The past year was very difficult for Bob and very sad for everyone who loved him, but we are so thankful for the talks, moments, honesty, love, closeness, memories and strength that Bob gave us as his final gift. A true gift. The family will be having a private service.

Dear Jane & family, Dick and I know that words, no matter how eloquent, have little value at this time. Bob was a rare find, gentle, truthful, thoughtful and had the best smile. He was more than a friend. We will miss the many wonderful times we spent together. We offer to you our sympathy, our friendship and our sincere affection.

Bob was a wonderful friend who I knew from the golf course. Bob was a no nonsense golfer who played the game as it was meant to be with everything in the cup. I will miss our times on the golf course. I am saddened that my wife Sandy and Bob and Jane never shared a meal together. Sandy and I send our thoughts and prayers out to the whole Coppa family. We are saddened at the loss of a great friend and great human being...
