THOMPSON, Ruth Ann (Swenson) Ruth Ann (Swenson) Thompson, 63, of Plainville, passed away at home on Sunday, (October 8, 2006) after a long illness. She was born in Bridgeport on February 3, 1943, one of three daughters to the late Harold E. and Ruth M. (Leibold) Swenson. Ruth was a dedicated lifelong volunteer, beginning as a teen with the Order of Rainbow Girl in Monroe, where she worked her way to become Worthy Advisor. In addition, she was editor of her yearbook for the first graduating class at Joel Barlow High School in Easton. She was active in various churches throughout the years, establishing "Cherub Choirs" in Saginaw, MI., North Olmstead, OH., and Newton; and at the Plainville United Methodist and Congregational Churches. Ruth took part in community involvement and volunteer opportunities wherever she resided, and had a feisty personality, speaking her mind on matters she felt strongly about. Her greatest joy was being a mother, and supporting her children's activities throughout the years. She was enthusiastic on supporting education issues and was active in the Band Parents support group while her children attended Plainville schools. As they grew, she became Player Agent for the Plainville Little League, a position she was proud to hold for over 20 years, until her health forced her to retire in 2001. She affectionately referred to all the players as "her kids" and will forever be remembered for her dedication to them and the entire organization. She leaves her loving husband, Denis of Plainville; her daughter, Ruth (Thompson) Mann and her husband, Jonathan of Petaluma, CA; her son, Henry Thompson of Southington; and her grandson, William Mann. She also leaves her sisters, Barbara Anderson and her husband, Thomas of Brookfield and Nancy Swenson of Berlin, WI; a niece and a nephew. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. Burial will take place at West Cemetery. Relatives and friends may gather on Thursday evening, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. For directions and online condolences, please visit www.bailey-funeralhome.com.
