Scott Reed Obituary

Scott Michael Reed died peacefully after a long struggle in UMass Memorial Hospital on May 1st, 2023 in Worcester, MA at the age of 57. He was born on November 11, 1965 in Wareham, MA and graduated from WPI in 1988 with a degree in Mathematics. He and his wife, Jennifer, were married in 1988 and enjoyed a wonderful 34 years together. During his corporate career, he was an IT executive at The Hartford, MassMutual, and AIG. In 2015, he and Jennifer purchased the Inn at Pleasant Lake in New London, NH and began their new life as innkeepers. In 2020, they purchased the New London Inn. Scott was passionate about the local community and was involved on several boards. He was also a strong supporter of the Center for the Arts and the New Hampshire Food Bank. Scott had a variety of passions and had many skills, but his biggest passion was always his family. His children remember him as a father who went above and beyond and always motivated them to achieve their dreams.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and his two children, William and Abigail. He is also survived by his mother, Joyce Reed, his brother, Jeffrey, and his sister, Jennifer, as well as many nieces and nephews. Though he was taken too soon, Scott lived a full and adventurous life. He traveled the world, inspired those around him, and loved fully and completely.

A celebration of life is scheduled for this Friday, May 5th, from 1pm-3pm at the Historic Barn at the Inn at Pleasant Lake in New London, NH. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Scott's life.

I knew Jennifer in high school, and met Scott in college. He was a very kind and caring person. The world Is a sadder place without him in it and I'm devastated that he is gone.

Dear Jen and Family, Scott and Jen have been in our prayers and thoughts since his accident and during his course of care. Both of you have extended such incredible hospitality over the years and been so welcoming and gracious to our family and my business colleagues when we visited the Inns. We are fortunate to have known both of you. God bless you and may Scott rest in peace.

I worked in Scott's org at Massmutual a few years ago. He was a great leader and a friend to many. I loved reading his Friday emails which not only reflected on all the great things happening in his organization, but he often talked about his family, his dog, his music and some of his adventures. My deepest sympathy to all who knew and loved Scott.

Scott, my little 2nd cousin, 10 yrs younger
Thinking backHis Dad, “Bo” gave him wiffle haircuts.
His Mom, “Jody”, deep love and the magic of Christmas villages
I was an occasional babysitter, observer of his boyhood antics
And heard Gramma Shirl relate stories of him at her kitchen table
Saying “That Scott! He’s smart as a whip!”
I was 18 by the time Scott was 8
Getting out of college and on with life when he was just starting
Before I knew it he was all grown up
A rising star in the family— And becoming one with Jen
A dynamic duo! Taking on one house renovation after another,
Starting to write stories of their yearly adventures and budding family through Christmas letters.
So when I think of Scott, I think of: A multifaceted gem!
*****
One who savored all of life: as husband-best friend-soul mate to (and co-creator with) Jen,
As a Dad, cultivating uniquely close, deep loves with and for Will and Abbie
He rejoiced when each accomplished life goals/milestones,
And thoroughly enjoyed their “growing up” years as well as their transitions to adulthood.
He also relished time with his extended family, colleagues, friends, community.
In his career and varied business roles he was a professional, very creative and intelligent,
yet personally present; “real” as they say. Genuine.
A renaissance man: carpenter, investor, dog lover,
Project tackler, musician, story teller, traveler, actor,
Adventurer, comedian, problem solver, lover of life
A dreamer who lived intentionally, making dreams come true
And who easily laughed at himself, life’s curve balls,
and all the odd twists and turns we go through as humans.
We are all richer for having known and loved Scott,
And all poorer to have to say goodbye so soon.
Yet, he’d be the first to say, “Live on!” and “Live and love on purpose!”
I thank God for giving us time on this earth with a most precious,
One of a kind, Irreplaceable masterpiece of His: Scott Michael Reed.

I just saw this news on LinkedIn - so sad. Scott and I worked together at Andersen and shared an office on a big project at Sikorsky. He was such a hard worker and so smart. We had a lot of fun during that project - fond memories. My deepest sympathies to his wife and children....

We were lucky to have known Scott, even for a short time, while our lovely daughter-in-law Julia Kormanik was the IPL Innkeeper. Scott (and Jennifer) truly stepped in to immediately assist when our son Aaron and his wife Julia moved to NH. Our deep sympathies to Jennifer and family.

Scott was a great leader he was so approachable and genuinely interested in others. I enjoyed working with Scott and for to know another side of him during the years we played in the United Way Pool Tournament. A fond memory of mine was one time when we were playing against Scott and his team. My dad played on our team. I had stepped away for something and when I returned I saw Scott and my dad chatting together and laughing. My first thought was "oh no, what's the worst possible story my dad could share with one of our senior leadership team!" But not to worry they got on like old friends. Scott was such a genuine good guy!!! My condolences to his family and all who loved him.

My condolences to Jennifer and the rest of Scott´s family. I had the pleasure of working with Scott and more recently visiting him and Jen at the Inn. Scott was always professional and pleasure to work with. I admired him for his family devotion. The stories he told of his kids made it abundantly clear how much he loved and cared for them. His industriousness was also impressive. One Inn wasn´t enough? Scott was an all-around admirable guy. He lived life well. He will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.

Scott epitomized a leader. He was always available, listened and provided advice and support. His mentorship was critical to my own future success in leadership at MM.
Beyond work, Scott and I shared a passion for music. We both played guitar and had the opportunity to play together at several work functions.
My deepest condolences to Scott’s family and to everyone who’s lives were positively impactful by his presence.
