Sheri Gold Obituary

Sheri Rowley Gold (Jensen) of West Hartford, CT passed away at her home Saturday, September 19, surrounded by her husband and sons, after a long, courageous, and always hopeful battle with a brain tumor. Born on July 18, 1956, near Delano, Minnesota, Sheri was the daughter of the late Joan Jensen and Donald Jensen. Sheri is survived by her husband Harry Gold, her sons Carter Rowley and Dillon Rowley, sister Lauri Pfeffer, brother Brian Jensen and step-father Donald Jensen. She graduated from Delano High School and received her design degree from Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, Minnesota. After graduation Sheri moved to Connecticut and in 1981 started Advent Design, an interior design studio in Hartford. The firm collaborated with architects, engineers and specialists to create interiors for schools, hospitals, libraries and offices throughout the state of Connecticut and beyond. Her creative vision and attention to detail leave a legacy of award-winning interiors. Her family and friends knew Sheri as an independent thinker with an inquisitive mind. To be seated next to her at dinner was to be touched by a woman who always wanted to learn and know more. She had a giving spirit. If you were in need, Sheri helped. She met Harry Gold during a "five-minute lunch date" (which she was very wary of) - happily she discovered her soul mate. Getting married to Harry on the beach in Nantucket in 2012 was the highlight of her last years and a source of great happiness. Sheri leaves a large circle of life-long friends and colleagues whose support during her last year was deeply appreciated by the family. A Celebration of Life is being planned and will be announced on the website http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/sherigold after October 1, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to: CT Brain Tumor Alliance - www.ctbta.org Foodshare - www.Foodshare.org

They are planning a 50 year class reunion for this month from what I hear. If I knew you would be there, I would do everything I possibly could to hug you once again. Your friend.

I'm late in adding my thoughts to this book, as I've just found out the sad news of Sheri's passing. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of Sheri's family and friends. I worked with Sheri originally in the 1980's as an employee at Advent Design in Hartford, and then more recently re-connected with her on several renovation projects for Rockville/ United Bank. I always admired her bright, upbeat personality; her keen sense of design; and her assured self-confidence as a woman business owner. She will be very much missed! Again, my condolences to all who had the pleasure to know her and/or work with her.

It was with sadness that I learned of the recent passing of Sheri. I really did not know her personally, but knew her, I think, very well professionally. She contributed her design skills and expertise to three projects with which I was closely associated.

Her work on the first project, Solomon Schechter Day School of West Hartford, our (then) children's elementary school, was exceptional and very sensitive to the needs of both children and the local Jewish community. I cannot articulate how blessed our school was to have had Sheri as our design consultant. Her work lives on in the spirits of our community's children every day.

The second project I worked on with Sheri was at my current position at The Rideshare Company, in Bloomfield. Sheri took the original design of a company oriented toward a very "masculine" building, designed to appeal to the world's leading horse owners and trainers, and transformed it to match our organization's "green" and environmentally-focused mission. I see and work in the fruits of her design every day. I always think of her.

The third project in which I was exposed to Sheri's talent was her work at The Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford. She developed a very tasteful, respectful and spiritually uplifting design solution that created a wonderful new space in which I and our entire congregation can worship in an environment that is simultaneously contemporary and traditional.

Everyone who worked with Sheri or who were fortunate enough to have benefitted from "living" in the results of her design work were blessed to have been touched by her life. The dignity and gentle way in which she carried herself in all that she did is something I will always remember about her.

May her memory be for a blessing.

My sincere condolences to the family for the loss of your loved one. May prayers strengthen you and memories comfort you, and may our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father, who loves us, comfort your hearts and "make you firm". (2 Thessalonians 2:16, 17)
