Timothy John Loney

Timothy John Loney passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the age of 80. He had been battling lung cancer for the past few years and passed comfortably at home after spending the day with friends. Tim was born on June 19, 1942, in Middletown, CT. His parents were Jack and Mary Looney. Tim also has a younger brother John Looney. He grew up in Hampton, CT but later moved back to Deep River for his Junior and Senior years in high school, where he graduated from Valley Regional High School in 1960 and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. He attended Southern Connecticut State College, earning a bachelor's degree in 1965. He went on to earn his first master's degree from George Washington University in Administration by 1966. In 1966 he joined the US Navy and served with distinction in Vietnam, where he was deployed and stationed for a period of time. He retired from active duty in 1971 at the rank of Lieutenant but continued in the US Naval Reserve for many years while being promoted to the rank of Lt Commander. He was passionate about education and continued this as a lifelong pursuit in obtaining another Masters and Doctorate in Public Administration/Management from USC. While working full time for the city Oakland and federal government, Tim was an adjunct professor at multiple institutions, including University of San Francisco and Golden Gate University. He continued teaching long into retirement. Tim is survived by his wife, Jane Henderson-Loney of 32 years; his younger brother John Looney; his children Marc, Lauren, Matthew, and grandchildren Ashleigh, Tyler, Claire, and Kathryn. There will be a private service to scatter Tim's ashes at sea with Veteran military honors through the Neptune Society in the San Francisco Bay, just outside Marin.
