RAYMAN WILLARD HERMAN, 92, of Hurricane, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, W.Va. Born September 29, 1924, in Accoville, W.Va., he was a son of the late Michael S. Herman and Maude Fortner Herman. In addition to his parents, Rayman was also preceded in death by his brothers, Cassem, Ollie, William and Homer, and sister, Ayshia Gore. Rayman was a graduate of Logan High School and attended West Virginia University, where he studied engineering. Throughout his career, Mr. Herman owned various stores and was on the board of various banks in Logan County. In addition, he was a former Mayor of Man, W.Va., and coal company engineer with The Pittston Company and Subsidiaries. He was a dedicated Christian who held various positions in the following churches: Omar Community Church, Omar, W.Va., Bruce McDonald Methodist Church, Man, W.Va., and Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church (FBUMC), Hurricane, W.Va. Most recently he was named as honorary chair of the FBUMC building finance campaign. He taught many classes and discipled countless people who are eternally grateful. His goal in life was to build the Kingdom of God. His favorite things to do were to go to the beach, play golf, fly his airplane, give hugs and be surrounded by his happy, laughing family. Rayman is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Evelyn Jean Caldwell Herman; their children, Fred Herman (Kathy) of Gaithersburg, Md., Pam Stollings (Ernie) of Ona, W.Va., Debi Herbert (Keith) of Huntington, W.Va., Sandy Bailey (Rick) of Chapmanville, W.Va., and Dr. Jim Herman (Kim) of Hurricane, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, Hurricane, with the Rev. Dr. Ellis Conley, Bishop Tom Bickerton and Rev. Jeremy Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, W.Va. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family is thankful for the above and beyond care he has received at CAMC Teays Valley, Cabell Health Care Center, Culloden, and Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, W.Va.
