Martha Eloise Cavanaugh

June 10, 1937 - May 26, 2025

DECATUR - Martha Eloise Cavanaugh, 87, of Decatur, Ill., passed away at 8:43 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025, at her home.

Martha was born on June 10, 1937, in Decatur, Ill., the daughter of Joseph Daniel Burtschi and Margaret Eloise (Thorpe) Burtschi. She married James Ronald Cavanaugh on June 18, 1960, in Decatur, Ill. James preceded her in death on November 22, 2019.

A Private Funeral Mass will be held for the immediate family. The burial will be at Boiling Springs Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Catholic Charities.

She is survived by her children, Mark Cavanaugh and wife Kelly, of Bloomington, Ill.; J. David Cavanaugh and wife Stacy, of Monroe, Wis.; Cathy Cavanaugh of Forsyth, Ill., and Judy Clark and husband Michael of Gilbert, Ariz; and 13 grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, James Burtschi.

A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish since its founding, Martha was a woman of deep and abiding faith. She was the epitome of a selfless and loving mother. Faith, her husband, and her family were the center of her world. Her graceful presence will be profoundly missed by her family.
