Richard Comstock Obituary

CASEY - Richard Lee Comstock, known to his friends as Dick, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2012. Dick was born the son of Mary Jane Clagg and Cole Comstock on December 10, 1924 in Dieterich, Illinois, where he was raised. He served three years in the Army ETO during WWII, and then graduated from Eastern Illinois University. After college, Dick had a long career in the oil and gas industry, working until he was 83. In 1952, he married Charlotte June Lightle, of Gas City, IN, who remained his "bride" for 60 years. Due to the demands of Dick's job, the Comstock family lived in many states as well as Canada before settling in Casey, Illinois where they raised their three daughters Connie, married to Tony Woods of Taylorville, IL; Toni, married to Jack Prahl of Peachtree City, GA; and Jamie, married to Larry Williamson of Pensacola, FL. Dick has 4 grandchildren: Carmen Hurst (Brad), Cumming, GA; Justin Jansen (Jill), Peoria, IL; Brian Prahl (Lauren), Lexington, SC and Jessi Prahl of East Atlanta Village. He also has 2 great-grandsons, Brody and Griffin. After Dick and Charlotte left Casey, they lived in six states and many foreign countries before settling in Gulf Breeze, FL. During his life, Dick was active in both professional and civic organizations. He was president of the Distribution Contractors Association, served as president of the Casey, Illinois school board, was a 32nd degree Mason, was active in Shriners International and served as a deacon in the First Christian Church in Casey, IL. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2012 at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 6031 Goodrich Dr. Pensacola, FL 32504 Memorial gifts may be made to the church.
