Katharine Tanksley Obituary
August 10, 1929 - January 23, 2021
Wilmington, North Carolina - Katharine Livingston Tanksley "Kathy" age 91, of Wilmington, NC, formerly Miami, FL, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Born in Glencoe, Illinois she moved first to Biloxi, MS and then to Miami, Florida where she attended Ponce de Leon High and also University of Miami. She truly lived a long and fruitful life.
She served as President of the Pinecrest Elementary PTA, President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Ladies Auxiliary, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother, a licensed Real Estate Agent and an active member of many other organizations. Kathy was a talented artist and a songwriter.
Katharine was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Judge John A. Tanksley Sr. Katharine is survived by a son John A. Jr., wife Anne, daughter Frances and husband Michael Sweeney, grandaughters Shannon and husband Chris Davidson, Maryn Tanksley, Elise Martinez and husband Luis, grand stepsons Joe and Andrew, and five great grandchildren, Andres, Maya and Jack Martinez, Chase and Riley Davidson. Kathy is also survived by nieces, nephews and her beloved cat Patty.
The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of prayers and tributes by so many friends. She was loved. She is irreplaceable and will live on in the hearts and minds of the family she so loved. May she Rest In Peace with her husband Jack where they both belong, in heaven.
