John Lennon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McKenzie Mortuary on Mar. 30, 2026.
John Paul Lennon, Jr., age 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington, NC. John Paul was born on January 18, 1953 in Whiteville. He was the son of the late John Paul Lennon, Sr. and Estelle Worrell Lennon.

He loved to work and that led him to a job with the Columbus County Sheriff's Department and then on to a career in banking at UCB & BB&T. After retiring from banking he started his own business; Atlantic Management Solutions, LLC which he ran from 2009 – 2023.

In addition to his work, he enjoyed attending his grandkids' softball and baseball games. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a volunteer firefighter at White Marsh/Welches Creek Fire Department.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Susan Hinson Lennon of the home, his daughter; Michelle L. Sullivan (Quinn Allen) of Whiteville, his son; Matt Lennon also of Whiteville, his granddaughter; Karli Sullivan, another son; Curtis Toon of Fayetteville, NC, and bonus grandchildren; Landen and Avery Allen. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Scooter.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:00 am at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Coy Long and Rev. David Butler officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 am prior to the service.
