I Grew up on the Chamber of Commerce Dock on Miami Beach. My father was a charter boatman. We were tied up next to Harold Abbott. I did know Harold since I was a boy. Those were really great times. I ran private yachts for some time and ultimately joined the Dade County Sheriff's Department where I remained for thirty years. I became the commander of the Bomb Squad. I knew Steve since he was a wee lad and I enjoyed his company. I did lose track of the Abbott's through the years. I happened to see Steve's obituary in the Miami Herald and that did bring back a few memories. I did earn an M.
S. Degree in chemistry which would have surprised my old fishing buddies. In general, they were not very well educated. Like most sea faring people, I moved away from the ocean and now live in a forest on the side of a mountain. That is my story.

I knew Steve when he was just a boy. I mated with his dad, Harold on the Phipp's Fighting Lady. Harold was an outstanding boatsman and fisherman. We won most tuna and marlin tournaments that we fished. I recall Steve falling through a rotten wood deck into a septic tank in Montauk N.Y. in an apartment that Harold and Betty Jo rented for the summer while we fished out of the Big Game Club. Man, did he ever smell. Harold nearly drowned him in the bath tub cleaning him up. I liked Steve. He was a good boy. Those were good days. The entire family is gone and I will miss them. Danny Abbott is the only one that I am unsure of.

On behalf of the South Miami Sr. High Class of 1975, our condolences go out to Steven's family. We have lost a good friend, 'Cobra' football teammate, (Defense,# 74, and track), and very special Class-mate. Steve was liked by everyone, and known for his quiet, sweet smile. I cherish the special bond that we all have as
from being child-hood friends and schoolmates. Peace to you, now, Steve.

I went to school with Steve, from a very early age we would tease each other. He was funny and energetic. I did run into him several years ago in front of a department store and we laughed about the old times. We will meet again one day Steve. I am sorry for the family he left behind. He is with God now.
