Olbert Prentice Wilkerson

1938 - 2016

WILKERSON, Olbert Prentice, age 77 of Belvidere, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Winchester. A native of Franklin County, he was born on Aug. 4, 1938, to the late Ira Ernest and Eliza Mae Judge Wilkerson. Prentice served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airbourne Division. He was the owner of Wilkerson Plumbing and Electric and enjoyed coon hunting and training dogs in his spare time. One of Prentice's favorite things to say was "Let them out one more time." He loved his family and church very much, and he was doing what he loved the last minutes of his life, working in the church. Prentice served on the Duck River Baptist Association Disaster Relief Team for many years and was Chairman of the Keith Springs Area Cemeteries Development Committee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronald S. Wilkerson and brothers, William H. "Bill" Wilkerson and James Monroe Wilkerson. Prentice is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Morris Wilkerson of Belvidere; daughters, Sherri Shamwell of Huntsville, Ala., Lisa (Eric) Bradford of Winchester and Anne Marie (Barry) Couch of Belvidere; daughter-in-law, Candy Coker of Pitkin, La; brothers, Chuck (Betty) Wilkerson and Terry (Pam) Wilker-son, both of Belvidere; sisters, Barbara Mangrum of Winchester, Judy Sisk of Belvidere and Linda (Dennis) Meier of Ashland, Ky., Jo Marino of Kansas City, Mo. and Lena (Kenneth) Steele of Belvidere; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family was held on Sunday, June 12, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Ray Bradford and Rev. Tim McGeeHee officiating.
