PAUL WORTHAM Obituary

PAUL EDWARD WORTHAM Paul Edward Wortham passed away at his home in Sherman on November 4, 2025. He was born on January 19, 1930 at Rose Hill, just outside of Tom Bean, Texas. He picked cotton and held assorted other jobs as a child and teenager, was a member of the Tom Bean football team that won the district championship his senior year and graduated from Tom Bean High School in 1946 at the age of 16. After graduation, he continued working. Most of his career was spent at Quaker Oats and Johnson and Johnson in Sherman. He was on the inaugural Fire Brigade at Johnson and Johnson and served for many years. He married Margaret Witt, the daughter of German immigrants, on February 4, 1955. He served in the Texas National Guard from 1949 until 1963. While called up to the Army in the 1950's, he was stationed in Germany and he and Margaret visited many of her relatives. In his later years, he enjoyed himself at the VFW in Sherman, where he danced and sang karaoke. His family thanks the VFW and its members for looking out for him and putting up with him. He also enjoyed working on his farm, raising cattle and grafting fruit and pecan trees. He was a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish. He worked hard and lived frugally his entire life to enable him to support and educate his family. He continued to support his family until the day he died. Paul was resilient, surviving being run over at separate times by a Brahma cow, several calves, and a Ford F-250 (he drove himself home before being hospitalized with collapsed lungs, fractured ribs, a broken collarbone and numerous abrasions) and survived cancer, COVID 19 and pneumonia, all after reaching the age of 80. He was predeceased by wife of 58 years, Margaret, and parents Duke and Almeda Wortham. He is survived by his son Larry Wortham, who spent an extraordinary amount of time taking good care of him, son Mike Wortham and wife Melissa, daughter Lisa Wortham, grandchildren Kevin Castillo, Zach Castillo, Brian Castillo and wife Marissa Lafreniere, Hassie Wortham and fiancée Barclay Wagner, Witt Wortham and fiancée Sarah Dorough, great grandson Eros Dorough Wortham, brother Don Wortham and wife Judy, and his dogs Sally and Bruiser. The family thanks his caretakers Jamie Johnson and Rainee Millman. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Paul was a great person. I enjoyed seeing him at the last J&J reunion. He was telling jokes and was full of energy. Still the same old Paul. He will be missed. My condolences to all of you.
