Richard Williams Obituary

DENISON - Richard "Dick" Martin Williams , a resident of Denison, Texas passed from this life in Sherman, Texas on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the age of 87. He was born in Ada, Oklahoma on April 13, 1927 to Richard Dudley Williams & Cora Martin Williams. Dick married Hazel Phelps on July 7, 1971; she preceded him in death on November 18, 1981. He found happiness again with Daphne Jenkins & after "dating" for 10 years, they married on June 16, 1992; she preceded him in death on September 27, 2008.

Dick served his country during WWII he was in the United States Air Force as a Master Sgt., and then retired from the Pentagon in 1969. He worked for J.C. Penny Automotive until they closed their doors and then began working for "Clemo" at McCoys Auto Parts on Morton Street. Dick was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Eagles but was most passionate about the Elks Organization and served his community as an active member of the Denison Elks Lodge. He served as the Exalted Ruler for four terms, was the leading Knight five times, was also a five year trustee, he lived what the Elks taught. His unselfish acts of kindness and his giving nature will be greatly missed and as many have said "they broke the mold when they made him". He enjoyed going to the casinos or as he called them the "betting parlors" to bet on the horses; but he especially liked cooking Mexican food for his family and friends.

Mr. Williams is survived by his family, Patricia Jenkins & her son, Andrew Jenkins both of Denison, Texas, Karen & John Pankratz of Cibolo, Texas, Crystal O'Dell & husband Bradley and their daughter, Peyton of Valliant, Oklahoma, Charles Pankratz & wife Rachel and their son Walker of Tomball, Texas, Michael & Susan Jenkins of Brenham, Texas, Jeff Jenkins & wife Tiffany and their three daughters Lindy, Allyson and Rhyan also of Brenham, Jamie Barnes and wife Sandy of Sherman, Texas, Cindy Soltis and husband Merle & their children Claire and Carter all of Durant, Okla. and Diane Barnes of Denison, Texas.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Hazel Williams; second wife, Daphne Williams; other family members, Carol Barnes and Jeff Barnes.

The memorial service will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel in Denison, Texas with Rev. Bradley O'Dell officiating. The family will host friends/family from 1-2 prior to service. Full Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Sheppard Air Force Base.

Dick was such an awesome man, I loved talking to him. He would do anything for anybody, such a great husband to Daphne who I miss getting to see, such a great step-father to my bestie Pat and grandfather to Andy. He was just gem!
