William Huston Obituary
WILLIAM DEWITT HUSTON
William "Bill" DeWitt Huston, 61, passed away in the Kerr County, Texas, floods on Jul. 4, 2025. His beloved dog, Sage, passed away with him. Bill was a Christian who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Bill was born Apr 12, 1964, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Virgil H. Huston Sr and June Rose Huston. He was blessed to have lived in numerous places growing up, including Hawaii, South Africa, and Japan. He was a teenager in Japan and took full advantage of making friends and learning from many Japanese people, including Buddhist monks and an elderly pottery master who allowed him to use his wheel, quite an honor.
He was an intelligent lad and was accepted into the US Navy Nuclear Program. He subsequently served at numerous training facilities and duty stations across the states and at sea. He was a plankholder for the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), christened in 1988.
After his term of service, he spent time in California and with his brother's family in Georgia, then settled for many years in the western North Carolina mountains, an area he loved.. While there, he established meaningful relationships with his nieces and nephews and their kids. In one example, he spent a compassionate day with his niece Jennifir after she was bitten by a copperhead snake.
In later years, he moved to Louisiana and then Texas for work. Bill was always a fine craftsman in wood and metal, and he worked his way up to being Senior Superintendent of major medical building projects. He lived in his RV as these jobs last for years.
He lost his home in the flood, having been living in Kerrville since January. He made friends easily, and Kerrville was no exception. He, having rekindled relationships with cousins in his move to Texas, was very close to Luan Land and Cinda Cathey and their families in Sherman, TX. Bill was very much an outdoorsman and collected historic guns and swords. He, most of all, perhaps, was a lover of all things dog.
Bill is survived by his brother, Virgil H. Huston Jr, and wife Lynn; three nieces: Jennifir Huston, Amber Kerr, and Caitlin Huston; two nephews: Devin Huston and wife Kimberly, and Ian Huston; three grandnieces and four grandnephews; and a host of cousins on both sides of the family. Bill is also survived by many friends who tirelessly worked rescue and recovery efforts, for which the family is eternally grateful.
There will be a graveside funeral service officiated by Pastor Chris Thomas of New Horizons Baptist Church in LaFollette, TN. The service will be at noon on August 30, 2025, in the family section of the Jacksboro City Cemetery, in Jacksboro, TN.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Animal Welfare Society of Kerr County, Texas, in the name of Willian D Huston.
