Jane Bean Obituary

Jane Marie Bean

Jane Marie Bean passed away on August 3, 2008, at Bethany at Pacific after a short battle with lung cancer.
She was born on February 16, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan. Jane was the first of four daughters born to John Steele and Marjorie Taylor Steele. After graduating from high school in 1943 in Sault St. Marie, Michigan, she was sent to work for the Atchison, Topeka, and Sante Fe Railroad in San Bernadino, California. Following the end of World War II, she returned to Sault St. Marie and worked for the local telephone company. In 1949, she moved to Everett. In 1961, she married Russell Bean and they worked with many foster children during their early married years. Soon after arriving in Everett, she earned her License for Practical Nursing and went to work for Everett General Hospital.
She eventually moved into the business office where she remained until retiring in 1988. Following retirement, she was actively involved in the Everett Eagles Aerie #13, serving in a variety of roles over many years. She also enjoyed bingo, bowling, traveling, and many family activities.
She is survived by her sister, Faye; son, Troy and fiance, Melissa; son, Larry and wife, Stephanie; daughter, Marjorie, special friend, Jake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous dear friends.
She was preceded in death by husband, Russell; and sisters, Marjann and Joan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany at Pacific, in Everett.
A private committal service will be held at a later date.

My mother Imogene Knightall asked me to sign in the guestbook for Jane Bean. She was a very nice neighbor and mother enjoyed talking to her from time to time. She and Frank Fryer will miss visiting with her at the Eagles Club..

We are deeply saddened to hear of Jane's passing.
We first met Jane at the Everett Eagles about 16 years ago, where she was a regular volunteer for the Sunday breakfast. She always made it a point to come visit with us for a minute or two, even during the busiest of times. Of course, the kids' needs always took priority.
Over the years, Jane always remained a friend, and was always ready with a hug, a smile, and good conversation. She seemed to take a special interest in our kids (or at least made us feel like they were special to her). She always made the remark that our daughter, who was 1 at the time, wasn't going to let anyone bully her. Tammy is now almost 17 and a black belt in taekwondo. I guess Jane was right.
It must have been a feat to pack such a big heart into such a small body. We will miss our dear friend.
