John Dolquist Obituary

Captain Dean Dolquist (John Dean Dolquist) flew his final mission on Monday, June 17, 2024, to be reunited with family and friends in Heaven. Dean lived a full life - serving in the Navy for 26 years, then serving God through hospitality in the home he shared with his wife, Mary Jo, and in the church they attended. He is survived by his wife and childhood friend, Mary Jo Drennon Fox Dolquist, and his children Don Dolquist (Georgia), Kristin Curtis (Ben), Jenny Dolquist, and Jon Dolquist (Jessi), and stepchildren Tim Fox (Rachelle), Karra Wesley, and Katy Vasbinder (Eric), numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply.

Dean was born in Everett, WA January 2, 1943, and raised in Snohomish where he graduated in 1961. He retired in Oak Harbor, WA, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, crabbing, clamming, shrimping, and being with family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 2:00 to 5:00 at Shawn O'Donnell's American Grill and Irish Pub in Mount Vernon. Donations may be made in honor of Dean to Wounded Warrior Project or the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
Dean was such a wonderful person. I met Dean when he was with my special friend Holly. He had a wonderful sense of humor that always put smiles on everyone he met. I send my sincere condolences to Mary and to his children.

I´ll always remember Deano as a fantastic A-6 Intruder pilot instructor back in VA-128 at NAS Whidbey. He calmly prepared me for my first flight in the A-6 pilot seat on September 2, 1976. As a a result of his briefing I wasn´t nervous at all. He may have been as he didn´t have any easy access to the flight controls, but didn´t show it. We had a great flight and for me an unforgettable experience. All the best to his family.

The Snohomish High School Class of 1961 sends it's condolences to Mary and all of Dean's family and friends. Dean was well thought of, a natural leader, and a fine individual. I (as well as many of his classmates) am honored to have been a friend of Captain Dolquist.

Dean was a very talented drummer in Snohomish High School marching and concert band. It was a pleasure to be in the same percussin group and also watch him excell in high school athletics-football and track(just like his older brother Don who retired from the military too). Thank you for your Service!
