Jon Block Obituary

From a kid fishing the Rouge River with his grandfather, through the Alaska salmon canneries, to over 25 fishing seasons in Sekiu, Jon claimed to have touched over one million salmon in his life.

He was a helluva goose hunter, a whiz at welding, a smooth country music dancer, a dogged liaison engineer for Boeing Commercial, and an expert at telling stories around the shop wood stove. Jon was a patient mentor to many and a friend to many more. Extravagant only in picking out prime steaks and adding embellishment to his stories, his big and soft heart will be missed by all his friends.

Memorials will be later this year around the shop wood stove and at dock space A1.

Wow, this one really tugs at me. I met Jon in the Dorm at College (Oregon Tech). I was a Resident Advisor and he had been given the choice of moving into 'my' wing or moving out. He chose my wing, For the most part we really got along fantastic!! Some weekend nights were pretty tough though. Oh well, we always got along thru it all no matter what.
He graduated, went to work, and I stayed in Klamath and slowly hunted and fished my way thru a degree and ended up at Boeing as well. Jon and I had a few times at Boeing where we would meet on certain projects and always got along great, I really did enjoy being with a person with a practical background working the problems.
One time while I was in Salem, Oregon to help take care of my father at an assisted care center, I heard this unique booming voice in the parking lot. It was Jon. He had made the trip to see his sister who was also there, and having some difficulties of her own. Jon was making the nearly 600 mile round trip almost every weekend to be with his sister.
I remember lots about Jon. I'm going to miss them all.

I only knew Jon for a short period of time but he definitely was one of a kind. He treated everyone like family and always had a great story to share. My prayers are with Jon and his family.

Jon was one of the funniest, big hearted people I've ever known. I worked with him for a large part of his career at Boeing and I was proud to count him as a good friend. He always responded to any question with "Well, that depends..." Peace be with you my friend.

I loved Jon. He went to college with my best friend Bill Smith and they both hired in at Boeing together. Jon loved to argue, he and I had some epic debates and I think I'm the only person ever to defeat him in battle over Boeing spec's. Jon and I worked a lot of projects together, too many to remember them all. Here's one, We were both on 2nd shift and he had written a repair for a Nose Landing Gear rework that was holding up line move. He had overcomplicated the repair to the point it pissed me off. When he announced he was leaving at midnight, I told him if he leaves, I'll leave too. He stayed until we got the bushings installed and honed to size, we finished @ 4:00 am and made line move in the morning. Jon was great to work with and a great story teller. I miss him.
Condolence to his loved ones.

I met Jon at Boeing. He was one of my go to engineers. He helped solve many issues on the 767 wing body joint. Always had many laughs and enjoyed the wood stove talks. He was bigger than life and will be missed by many. I appreciate the chance to have met him and called him a friend. Rest in peace Jon.

My deepest condolences to Jon's family, friends, and former colleagues. Jon was one of the bright spots in 767 liaison engineering. His smile, sense of humor, and depth of knowledge were always appreciated, and he was tireless in working to ensure incredible support to the line. May he rest in peace.
