Linda Evans Obituary

Linda Staton Evans
January 19, 1943 - June 1, 2022
Durham, North Carolina - DURHAM: Linda Staton Evans, 79, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Duke Regional Hospital. She was born in Ramseur County, N.C., daughter of the late Mason Strong Staton and Gola Lineberry Staton. In addition to her parents, Linda is also predeceased by her sister, Maxine Fox Lee.
Linda met her best friend and love of her life, Gilbert "Gene" Evans in Asheboro, NC. They married in 1966, and soon after, they moved to Durham, NC, where Linda worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Company and then at Union Carbide (now Bayer CropScience) as the executive assistant to a number of presidents over the years – all of whom readily admitted that Linda ran a tight ship.
Linda was an absolute force of nature and a true blessing in the many lives she touched. She doted on Gene, and they danced the shag at every wedding, party and celebration. She loved her boys and her grandchildren fiercely. She was the kind of mother who kept up with everyone's friends and loved them as her own, never forgetting a birthday, baby gift or wedding present. She delighted in being a matchmaker. She taught her boys to love BIG and stay true in their walk with God.
Linda was devoted to her church family and friends, serving (of course) as secretary of her Sunday School class for many years. She also loved to sing in the choir and wasn't afraid to take the high risers in the annual living Christmas tree performances. She was the most organized human being on the planet, and she made a mean lasagna. Linda was beautiful, smart, faithful, loving and the best wife, mother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, godmother, friend and "Nana" anyone could ever ask for.
Linda is survived by her husband, Gilbert "Gene" Eugene Evans; sons, Brad Allen Evans (Tanya), David Michael Evans (Susan Blair); grandchildren, Caleb Allen Evans, David Michael Evans Jr., Grant Campbell Evans, Henry Eugene Evans; goddaughter, Angela Howell Turner; and brothers-in-law, Olin Lee, Clarence Evans along with many nieces and nephews; all of whom she adored.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, at Grey Stone Church in Durham. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Community Church Cemetery in Asheboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Grey Stone Church "House of Hope": 2601 Hillsborough Rd., Durham, NC 27705.
The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. in Durham. Online condolences can be made at www.clementsfuneralservice.com.

Linda and I carpooled to Union Carbide for many years. She was a wonderful friend and a genuine person. Although I left the area 20+ years ago, I still have extremely fond memories of those days. Linda loved her family. I know she will be greatly missed. Love and prayers to you all.

I just now learned of this very sad news and I am sorry that it is physically impossible for me to attend her funeral. Nevertheless I want to express my sincere sympathy to you Gene and the rest of her family. Linda was a wonderful woman who has left her gentle mark on every one she met. Trustworthy, beautiful, kind, intelligent and extremely organized and caring. I will continue to cherish my memories of working with Linda. May God bless her soul.
