Nicholas Santostasi Obituary

Nicholas P. Santostasi, Sr.

Sarasota - Nick went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 10, 2021. He was born March 5, 1929 and was raised in Mt. Vernon, New York by parents, Isabella (nee Leone) and Pietro Santostasi. Nick served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army/Signal Corps, which he joined at the age of 17 during the occupation of Japan at the end of WWII. Nick was married to his late wife Nina for 60 years. They raised three children, Nick, Jr. (Marcia), Anthony and Carrie and had three grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson (Luke), Steven (Maggie) and Natalie. A great granddaughter is due in October.

Nick's 30+ year career as an airline executive with Alitalia brought him around the world and gave him a few opportunities to take his family on some of his travels. Nick was a devoted family man and a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees. He was most proud of his Catholic faith, his Italian-American heritage, his family and his Army service including climbing to the top of Mt. Fuji!

Nick is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Paul and his wife, Nina. We will greatly miss our Dad and Grandfather who taught us all what true perseverance looks like.

The family will receive friends at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N. Orange Ave. on Sunday, June 13, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. We will celebrate Nick's life at a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 7900 Bee Ridge Rd., on Monday, June 14, 2021. Burial in the Sarasota National Cemetery will be private.
