Danny Causey Obituary

Lt. Col. Danny Paul Causey

October 27, 1946 - June 17, 2025

Lt. Col. Danny Paul Causey, US Army (Retired), 78, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at his residence.

Born October 27, 1946, in Mullins, S.C., he was the son of the late Paul Dennis Causey and Leavelle Rogers Causey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean West.

Dan graduated from Hanahan High School in North Charleston and received an Associate's Degree from Anderson Junior College. He graduated from Newberry College where he also met his wife, Kathy. Dan's first career was spent in the US Army retiring after 21 years as a Lt. Colonel.

His second career as a locksmith followed for 35 years at Keever's Key & Repair Service.

As a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Dan was a pillar in the church as he and Kathy together served in literally every aspect of its leadership.

Dan enjoyed playing golf, running, reading and dancing but his work ethic took most of his time. His family was most important to him, and in later years, playing with his granddaughters brought him pure joy. Dan was a quiet, calm, kind and caring man who had an inner peace about him that he exhibited during his brief illness. His dry sense of humor and easy-going personality were evident to all who knew him. Dan Causey's life and legacy have left this world a better place.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Kathy Keever Causey of the home; children: Jennifer Richards (Stacey) of Conover, N.C., Jonathan Causey (Kesha) of Hickory, N.C.; grandchildren: Cassie Richards, Katlyn Causey, and Leah Causey; brother-in-law, Doyle Keever (Diane) of Davidson, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service with full military honors to celebrate Dan's life will be held Friday, June 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Monica Childers officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center at the church.

Members of the C.O.R.E. Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 52 16th Avenue, NE, Hickory, N.C. 28601.

I was fortunate to meet Dan many years ago at Keevers. Had many dealings with him and always enjoyed his professionalism, knowledge and quick wit. A true gentleman !
