Elliott Eugene

Eugene "Gene" Wesley Elliott, 99, of Hickory, passed away August 15, 2025.

Born July 15, 1926, in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Vernon C. Elliott and Maude Fowler Elliott.

A member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Longview, he was the Church Treasurer and served in many other areas. He retired as Parts Manager from Jamie Parsons Chrysler after 50 years in Chrysler dealerships. His hobbies were roller skating and western square dancing. He was a mentor at Southwest Elementary School for several years in the Sunshine Reading Program.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee H. Elliott; three brothers, Vernon, Norman, and Donald Elliott; and one sister, Frances Younts.

Mr. Elliott is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bunny Reid and husband Coy, of Conover; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry Elliott and wife, Renee, of Tampa, Fla.; four grandsons, Jason Reid, Sean Reid, Cory Reid, of Conover and Justin Elliott of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandsons, Carson Reid, Bryson Kirby, Chase Reid, Tyler Reid, Cole Reid, and Coy Daniel Reid of Conover; great-granddaughters, Courtney Reid, Sydney Reid, Tori Reid, and Ally Reid of Conover; great-great-granddaughter, Avie Reid of Conover; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 10 a.m., in Catawba Memorial Park. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Janet Lovelace, with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, General Fund, 80 Twenty-Eighth St. N.W., Hickory, N.C. 28601.

The family would like to personally thank Emily Butler of Carolina Caring for her special care and attentiveness in Gene's final days.
