A cute story about Mrs. Pulliam... She came into the Visitors Center in Lexington, North Carolina one day when I was working there. She was looking for a church to attend a funeral. I gave her directions. We started talking. She taught English at NCHS at the same time my mother, Carmen Lint, did. (She had been an interim teacher.) Mrs. Pulliam retired the year before I could have taken her class - and today I'm a writer. I told her how much I had always wished I had been one of her students. I didn't find a strict writer/editor who made me appreciate red ink until many years into my careers. We chuckled. It was truly an honor to see her that day.

Ted and Margie...
I am so sorry to hear about Aunt Helen... Helen's sister (my grandmother) died while I was pregnant with my son Kevin. Aunt Helen "asked" me to have him on her birthday because she said that "no one was ever born on her birthday." In July 1992, my doctor gave me a choice of the day to induce labor, and I told him that July 13th was my aunt's birthday, and that is the day that I was going to have him, and I did. That always made that day special, and I always reminded him that July 13 was Aunt Helen's birthday too.
Helen was at my daughter, Candace's Sweet 16 birthday party 4 years ago. Kevin turned 16 on Sunday, but a few months ago we were talking about Helen, and Kevin said that he wanted to have a party together on Helen's 100th birthday because he would be having a big birthday too (18)....
I wish I could have attended the funeral. Aunt Helen has been on my mind A LOT in the past week.
Love to you all!
