Mi Carney Obituary

Mi Kyong Kim Carney LENOIR Mi Kyong Kim Carney, 66, of Yorktown Court, Lenoir, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 13, 2013, at the residence. She was born July 11, 1947, in Seoul, Korea, to the late Kum Tong Kim and Nam Sun Kim. In addition to her parents, Mi Kyong was preceded in death by her two sisters, who she lost in wake of the Korean War, and later in life by her son, Kyle Brendan Carney and by her beloved husband of 32 years, Roderick J. Carney Jr. Mi Kyong, known to many as "Mickey," loved her husband Roderick with an immeasurable passion and devotion, redefining for many the boundaries of the heart. As a mother, Mi Kyong exercised an infinite love for her son Thomas Kim Carney, holding him close to her blessed heart with an unyielding sense of joy and honor. Aside from her son Thomas, Mi Kyong was a mother by right of heart to many, conveying an affection and care that indescribably touched and inspired the lives of many. Mi Kyong drew great happiness from the selfless love she gave and received from her friends, showering those she knew with an unconditional adoration and care. Among her many accomplishments in life, Mi Kyong was an exceedingly gifted artist. She established herself as a recognized painter in the Vancouver, British Columbia area, where her revered Chinese watercolor paintings were showcased and sold in many art galleries in the area. In 1992, after only one year of tutelage, Mi Kyong handcrafted a full-sized Stradivarius-based violin for her son Thomas, that earned her 1st prize at the 1992 Violinmakers Association of British Columbia Competition. In 2010, Mi Kyong became an ordained Deacon of the Korean Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son, of the home, Thomas Kim Carney and wife, Tiffany Pak Carney, of Manhattan, N.Y.; son, Todd Patrick Carney and wife, Lucy Albergaria, of Miami, Fla.; daughter, Jennifer Carney Davis, of Cranston; sister, Chung Ja Kim and husband, David W. Kim, of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, James Thomas Carney and wife, Joanne Carney, of Fall River, Mass.; sisters, Donna Carney, of New Hampshire and Helen Carney, of Rhode Island; nieces, Susan Kim and husband, Harry Choi, of Texas, Mee Young Kim, of Seoul Korea, Diane Carney and husband, David Crenshaw, of Charlotte and Jeannine Carney, of New Hampshire; nephews Roger Kim, of Seoul, Korea and Timm Carney, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and grandchildren, Kate Choi, Ryan, Justin, Connor, Jason, Josh, Jessica Carney, Joseph and Tina Furtado. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. Clifton Black. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Kim Carney, Todd Patrick Carney, Justin Carney, Dave Crenshaw, Jaspaul Gosal and Harry Choi.
