Peggy Hill Obituary

WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Peggy Jane Blum Hill died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at her home in Hickory following a short, but courageous battle with breast cancer. The daughter of Ralph Dennis and Sara Mitchell Blum, she was born in Walnut Cove on Jan. 13, 1927. Peggy attended RJR High School and graduated from Salem College, where she majored in Home Economics and Psychology. She married Alfred Emanuel Hill on May 28, 1949. Peggy was a member of First Presbyterian Church and continued to privately follow all Moravian disciplines, never forgetting her lifelong faith. Peggy volunteered with the Hickory Service League for more than 50 years. Her other interests were dancing, playing bridge, reading and spending time with her friends. Her greatest passion was her family and Peggy dedicated her life to giving loving support and endless encouragement to each and every member. Her positive nature, gentle spirit and kind, open heart were her greatest gifts. Peggy is survived by her husband of more than 60 years; two daughters, Sara (Hank) Williams of Mebane, and Denni Peebles of Winston-Salem; one son, Alfred Jr. of Gainesville, Fla.; six grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Wood of High Point; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. A private graveside service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Memorials may be made to Calvary Moravian Church, 600 Holly Ave., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101; First Presbyterian Church, 237 Second St., Hickory, N.C. 28601-4932; or Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658-9715. Al and Family,

My fondest memory of Peggy is of her and Al walking the block, if we were outside, they would always wave and say hello. Peggy was a beautiful person inside and out. She will be missed. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Dr. Hill and family,

Thank-you for the opportunity to be part of Peggy's graveside service today. In caring for "Mrs. Sarah" when I was first pastor at Calvary, I got to know Peggy well. We shared many laughs and good stories about her mother. I will always treasure my relatiohship with your family. May God surround you in your time of loss but may he fill you with resurrection hope and joy
