Robert MacDicken Obituary

Robert A. MacDicken died peacefully December 27, 2025, at his home in Blue Hill, ME. He was born July 22, 1940, in Tacoma, WA, the son of Robert W. and Nancy (Gustavson) MacDicken.

Robert (Bob) graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Class of 1958, and from the University of Redlands in California, Class of 1962. He went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree in seminary at Berkeley, CA in 1967, and was ordained to ministry. Bob's first church pastor position was at the First Baptist Church of Port Townsend, WA, where he later served as director of Olympic Community Action Programs. In 1970, Bob moved with his family to Reston, VA, when he went to support the Organization for Equal Opportunity (OEO) in Washington, DC. He later worked in management consulting, and as an executive trainer for the Council on Aging, and the American Society of Associated Executives in DC, while serving in associate pastor roles at various local churches.

Bob served for fourteen years as pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Catawba Valley in Hickory, NC. Under his leadership, the congregation constructed a church building, establishing a permanent home for worship. A passionate advocate for social justice, Bob was an officer in Kiwanis and a member of the Board of Directors at Park Ridge Health in Hendersonville, NC. He lived in Black Mountain, NC for twenty years with wife Eileen before retiring in Blue Hill, ME.

Surviving in addition to his wife Eileen Ross, are his children by his first spouse Carolyn MacDicken, née Johnson, Mark and his wife April of Centreville, VA, Nathan of Mechanicsburg, PA, Eric and his wife Caroline of Reston, VA, and Tabbitha and her husband Gregory of Herndon, VA; stepchildren Rachel Conner of New Orleans, LA, and Joshua Jones and his wife Samantha of Blue Hill; grandchildren Ripley, Tulia, Wyatt, Gemma, Jonathan, and Galen; Bob's brother James and his wife Janet of Olympia, WA. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Carolyn.

A celebration of Bob's life will be planned in the spring of 2026. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives are invited to make donations in Bob's memory to Kiwanis Club of Black Mountain.
