Shannon Bailey Obituary

Shannon Taylor Bailey

February 11, 1964 - December 3, 2024

Shannon Leigh Taylor Bailey, 60, of Garden City, SC passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, following a brief and unexpected illness at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Born February 11, 1964, in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late David Frank and Mary Ann Lackey Taylor, of Hickory, NC. In addition to her parents, Shannon was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Viv "Bill" and Matie Lackey, of Hickory; and paternal grandparents, Wray and Kathryn Taylor, of Lincolnton, NC; and uncles, Robert Taylor, of Greenville, SC and James Lackey, of Charlotte, NC.

Those that knew her know that sitting still was not in Shannon's DNA. Her varied career path indicates this need to keep moving. After graduating from Hickory High School in 1982, Shannon spent time working with children in both the school system and in private day care. She studied to be an EMS technician and later worked as a surgical room technician. Later in life, her care for others extended to being a server.

Shannon lived life her own way vehemently refusing to sacrifice what was important to her. She lived and loved fiercely with her impossibly quick wit, candor and unwavering sense of humor paving the way. She always sided with any underdog and was well known for making others feel welcome and supported. As a result, she was loved by her communities in North and South Carolina alike.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 15 years, Brad Bailey; her daughters, Kelsey Elizabeth Lundquist and Mary Taylor Lundquist, of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Sarah Taylor Wood (husband Shanon – not a typo!); and brother, Zachary David Taylor (Beth), of Hickory, NC; one nephew, David Taylor; and two nieces, Cate Taylor and Vivian Wood; an uncle, Frank Taylor (Marguerite), of Gastonia; an aunt, Carolyn (Bob) Taylor, of Greenville, SC; and nine first cousins.

In keeping with her penchant for fun, the family plans Celebrations of Life (yes two!) in Hickory and Garden City early in the new year. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Attn: Shannon Bailey Memorials, 5445 77 Center Drive, Suite 60, Charlotte, NC 28217.
