Sherrill Brittain Obituary

Sherrill T. Brittain VALDESE Sherrill Thanuel Brittain, 80, of Valdese, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory following a brief illness. Mr. Brittain was born Oct. 2, 1932, in Burke County to the late Sidney Brittain and Fathie Carswell Brittain. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in Alaska. He was employed by the Town of Valdese serving as a policeman, fireman, and later as Chief of Valdese Fire Department. Sherrill was a member of the Lovelady Masonic Lodge # 670 in Valdese. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Millis Herman "Pete" Brittain, Frank Brittain; and one sister, Vaultie Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Betty Sherrill Brittain, of the home; one daughter, Kim Brittain Wilson, of the home; one grandchild, Kayanna Wilson; one brother, John Brittain, of Valdese; one sister, Sally Leger and husband, Buddy, of Connelly Springs; and special friends, Betty Ruth, Ann and Jim Setzer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Officiating will be the Rev. Leonard Lindsey. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Valdese, with military honors by the N.C. National Guard Ceremonial Team. The family will receive friends this evening (Friday, Oct. 5), from 6 to 8 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Memorial contributions may be made to the N.C. Jaycee's Burn Center, 101 Manning Drive CB # 7600, Chapel Hill, NC 27599 or the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, P.O. Drawer 498 Emmitsburg, MD 21727. Betty and family,I am so sorry for your loss. I am an old friend of the family and I worked with you Betty at JL plant and I use to play wth the sweet little girl Sherrill use to say could tear up an anval. Again i'm so sorry for loss of a good man, husband, father,and grandfather. My prayers are with everyone.

I knew Sherrill from back in the 60's.
He was a good man, and I'm sure he will be missed by all his family and friends. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family.

It is with sadnness, that I write this message to Betty and Kim. I am so sorry to hear of Sherrill's passing. It seems I hear of a ole friends going home everyday. I know you are hurting with his loss. All of us who knew him will miss him today and everyday, however knowing he is out of pain and with his beloved mother, dad, brothers and sister also know that he is in a perfect world... My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
