Sue Williams Smith, 91, of Hickory, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Abernethy Laurels. Born July 23, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Roscoe Williams and Rose Elmina Williams. She dedicated 31 years to Hickory City Schools and served as the Director of High Hope of Hickory for nine years. She was a faithful member of Plateau United Methodist Church and dearly loved her church family.
She is survived by her step-children, Pamela Smith (Reggie) of Newton, Stephen Smith (Billi) of Conover, Jeffrey Smith (Norma) of Morganton; many loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her dog, Sam.
In addition to her parents, Marvin Roscoe Williams and Rose Elmina Williams, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jay C. Smith; her step-daughter, Robin Smith; and her siblings, Eskridge Williams, Merrell Williams, Marvin Williams Jr., and Bernice Williams.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2025, at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be at 12 p.m. in Jenkins Funeral Home chapel, with the burial following at Plateau United Methodist Church Cemetery located at 3315 Scronce Road, Vale, NC 28168.
Memorials may be made to Plateau United Methodist Church.
