Cecil Archibald Obituary

Cecil Archibald passed away at the age of 82 on October 5, 2023 in Logan Utah. He was born in Logan Utah on February 15, 1941 to Hillard and Hattie May Archibald of Clarkston. Cecil was raised with his siblings, Gwenda, Cleone, Ann, Theron, Lorin, and Dean.

He graduated from North Cache High School in 1959 where he played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. After high school and before his mission he played football at College of Southern Utah (now known as Southern Utah University) he served an L.D.S mission in the North Western States. He graduated from Utah State with a major in Education. He taught for 30 years in the Cache County School District. In order to put himself through school, he worked various jobs, including at Amalgamated Sugar in Garland and drove trucks for LeGrand Johnson Construction. He continued to drive for LJC after college during the summers when he wasn't teaching and continued doing this even upon purchasing the farm from his father-in-law and operating a dairy.

Cecil married Lorna Rae Nuttall on November 22, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Benson Utah where they raised four children. Jed, Steve, Lori, and Mark.

He loved sports of all kinds and was a tenacious competitor. He enjoyed watching athletes and people in general doing their very best. His favorite sports were basketball and football. He had a passion for raising cattle and crops. He enjoyed making improvements to land and equipment. His favorite part of farming was the harvest, especially operating the combine. His first time operating a combine was when he was 12 years old. Including his time away on his mission, he harvested every season for 70 years. He did custom grain harvesting for many years and thoroughly enjoyed cutting grain for friends and neighbors. Had they known how much Dad enjoyed cutting grain, they could have pressed him to do it for free and he probably would have obliged.

He had an unparalleled ability to work long hard hours and did his best to instill that in his children and anyone that worked for him the same gratification.

Cecil is survived by his lovely wife, Lorna Rae of 60 years. His children Jed (Cindy) Archibald, Steven (Des) Archibald, Lori (Scott) Price, Mark Archibald; grandchildren, Megan (Brennen) O'Dell, Lindsay (Chandler) Miller, Michael Price, Emma Swenson, Alyssa (Jake) Kartchner, Tia (Travis) Schroeder, Cody Price, Owen Archibald and Rhys Archibald; and great-grandchildren, Brayton Miller, Bronson O'Dell, Jameson O'Dell, Rielyn Miller, Avy Kartchner, Riggs Kartchner.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Benson Church 3472 N 3000 W Benson, UT. Visitation for family and friends will be held that same day at the Benson church from 11:30 -12:30 prior to the funeral services. Burial will be at the Clarkston Cemetery.

Mr. Archibald was one of my teachers at North Cache decades ago. We used to spend our lunches in his classroom talking his ear off. He was so kind to us and treated us like we were real people which, in hindsight, is precious. May you feel peace as you learn to navigate his passing.
