Dean Bench Obituary

Dean R. Bench, 81, passed away suddenly due to complications of surgery, on April 7, 2015. He was born July 17, 1933, in Preston, Idaho, to John Bench and Blanch Spillman. He married Joyce M. Mathews on Oct. 10, 1953. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple.
Dean served in the U.S. Army during the North Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was employed by Sego Dairy for five years then worked as a Logan City firefighter and EMT for 21 years. Following his retirement from the Logan City Fire Department he was employed by Texaco as a fuel distributor, then USU Transportation for an additional 14 years, finally retiring in 2004, at the age of 71.
Throughout his life, Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Following his retirement, he and Joyce traveled throughout Utah, enjoying the outdoors. They loved their camping trips.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Merlene Bench; son Larry (Julie) Bench; four grandchildren: Brock (Brooke) Bench, Nicole (Brett) Herbst, Logan Bench, and Jessie (Matt) Densley. Dean has nine great-grandchildren.
Active in his community, Dean was a member of the LDS Church, Good Sam Camping Club, Golden Spike Bikers and the American Legion. He was an exemplary husband, a loving father, a jolly grandpa and friend.
Throughout his life, Dean was a kindhearted and happy person, making those around him feel good. He found joy in life's simple things. He was an example of how to truly love someone shown by the beautiful way he treated and cared for his wife. Dean and Joyce were married for 61 years.

A viewing will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan. A graveside tribute and service with military honors will be at 1 p.m., following the viewing, at the Logan City Cemetery, located at 1000 North 1200 East, Logan.

Dear Joyce:
Richard called me and let me know of the death of Dean. You are in my prayers. Dean was a good man, I am so grateful for the plan of salvation and for your temple sealing. God bless you and your family.

Joyce, Larry and family. Sorry to hear about Dean leaving us. I always enjoyed working, visiting and seeing Dean. He was a great guy to be around and we will miss him.

There will never be another man with the heart and soul that Deano had. He always found a way to make those around him laugh and smile. Dean has been a close friend to my family and will always hold a special place in my heart. Joyce, although I can't be there to show my condolences please know I will be thinking of you all.
