Richard Sharp Obituary

On Saturday, May 19, 2012, Lt. Col. Richard C. Sharp succumbed to sudden heart failure while dining with family.
Lt. Colonel Richard C. Sharp was born in Visalia, Calif., on July 9, 1924, to Victor R. Sharp and Virginia Messick Sharp. He attended Visalia High School and graduated in 1942.
Richard served in the Navy during World War II with combat in the Philippines and Okinawa. He later served in the Korean War as an officer in the Air Force. Col. Sharp was awarded the Bronze Star. After WWII, Col. Sharp learned to fly and flew private aircraft for 45 years. He earned his commercial pilot's license in 1972.
Retiring in 1974, his military service totaled 30 years. During his years in the military he graduated from the University of Omaha in general education, closely followed by a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Washington. He concluded his education with a master's degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.
After his military service he went to work as the assistant assessor of Trinity County in Northern California. He moved to Redding, Calif., where he opened his own realty company, Sharp Realty. Finally, he moved to Logan, Utah, living in Cache Valley at the base of the Wasatch Mountains.
Richard is survived by his wife, Nellie Ruth Huneke Sharp, daughter of Paul Huneke and Mabel Hambright Huneke of Lemon Cove, Calif.; and his five children, Richard M. Sharp of Long Beach, Calif., Paula J. Salvarakis of Simi Valley, Calif., Julie A. Anderson of Logan, Utah, Pamela L. Crawford of Olean, N.Y., and Susan M. Sharp-Ward of Oakridge, Tenn.; he is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, in the Logan City Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Allen-Hall Mortuary prior to the graveside services.
