Glenn Taylor Obituary

Glenn Erwin Taylor III
1948-2016
Glenn Erwin Taylor, age 68, died peacefully in his home in The Woodlands, TX on February 18, 2016. He was born in Washington, D.C. on January 16, 1948, to Glenn Erwin Taylor II and Nancy Savage Taylor, and grew up in Manhasset, NY.
Glenn graduated from Storm King School (Cornwell-On-Hudson, NY)- in 1966, and then went on to graduate from Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, 1970), working locally for three years before moving to Houston to continue a career in the oil and gas industry.
Glenn opened Aztec Rig Equipment shortly there after and ran the company until selling it and moving to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1997 after accepting a job with Weatherford. The move to Canada was short-lived, however, but not without making a lasting impression. Glenn was the first Texan to ever be a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol and he cherished every minute, hosting bandage training parties at his home and volunteering his time without hesitation. Next up was an opportunity to move to Singapore and it turned out to be a real bright spot in his life; scuba-diving trips took the place of ski trips (temporarily) and the local cuisine and culture stole his desire. He moved home to the Woodlands, TX for a few years, which would serve as his home base moving forward. There were additional international opportunities - A stop in Bucharest, Romania for a year, and additional years in Singapore with FMC Technologies. He truly loved the global journey and exciting adventures along the way.
Glenn came back to Texas for good in 2015 after a 45-year career and enjoyed his new job more than anything, which was spoiling his five grandkids.
Glenn was an avid athlete – competitive in tennis, golf, cycling, skiing, and many more. He made countless friends playing in social events locally in Olde Oaks, Northgate Forest, Wimbledon and others. He was a long-standing member of the NOMADS out of Houston, the Society of Petroleum Engineers and The Woodlands Cycling Club. Although passionate about many sports and activities, his true love was snow skiing. He loved the mountains, and Family ski trips most of all.
Glenn was a competitor in all he did - He valued a strong work ethic, integrity, and sportsmanship above all else. Glenn was a role model to his family, with a special gift to his grandchildren of love, support, wisdom, and humor, in such a warm and gentle way.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Laurel (Armet), his four children, Jennifer (Webb) and husband Kiley Webb (Tampa, FL), Christina Anne (Houston, TX), Glenn IV and wife Sherry (Cypress, TX), and Johnathan and wife Amanda (London, England), his five grandchildren, Dylan, Bradley, Violet, Grace, and Brooke, his sister, Cheryl, brother, Brad, sister-in-law, Lynn (Manhasset, NY), and nieces, Lauren and Kathleen.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association , or charity/organization of your choice.

Not sure what to say?

Glenn was my boss from 1982 to 1986 with Aztec Rig Equipment. I was his Controller. He always treated me with respect. I was thinking about him and happened upon his obituary.

He was very smart and hard working. I wish I would have had word of his passing. He will be missed. I think a lot about Laurel as well. She is a very sweet person.

Laurel and family,

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Glenn at Vetco, followed his success at Aztec, and have known him for almost 40 years. We shared some great business and personal memories. He spoke with great pride of his family. Our prayers are with you all. God bless you.

Glenn, my dear friend, you will be missed. Long roads on a bicycle, long conversations of work, long distance friendship, will not be forgotten.
